Wow! That's another car that supposedly sold a while back. Looks like these high priced cars are playing musical dealers. List it for $100k for a couple of months. If it doesn't sell, send it off to another dealer and mark it as sold. Get's me wondering if any of the high dollar sales are real. Seems like a bit of a conspiracy to me.
I just paid 85 for a pristine 20k mile 98 yellow/black three pedal GTB and don't think I overpaid. Someone please tell me I didn't . . .
Trust me...you didn't. It's all about condition and if yours is the same one I know, you paid very fair price for it. Just watch your investment grow.
Yeah makes me wonder who on earth would buy a 355 priced over a a $100K. Wait a second, that's right no one is. There's a 96 GTS, six speed on ebay with a buy it now price at $69K
Funny how earlier in this thread when it was mentioned that a pristine low mileage red/tan GTS sold for $180k there was no comment from Hans and Franz (I mean Rennspeed and JohnK). Later when there is a mention of an odd colored B that hasn't sold they magically appear to remind the rest of us rubes that 3 pedal GTS & B's are a dime a dozen, never sell, are not sought after and are not appreciating. Thank God for experts.
I don't think for a moment that anyone here thinks their "driver" 355 GTS/B is going to pull $180k next week. What a collector pays for a car that is still in the wrappers isn't "the market". Anyone can goggle the vin of that 97 (red/tan) and I'm sure they will recognize the previous offering from a different dealer a few months ago. Same car, same mileage says dealer swap to me. If the first dealer wants to list it as sold, that's his prerogative. Moved from Huston, TX to Doral, FL. This isn't the first time I've noted this happening. Here's a link to the previous dealer: 1997 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta I'm sure you all remember it. Oh, and I don't think the blue car isn't selling because of color. I personally like blue cars. I don't see that as a deterrent. That's the excuse others are making for it not selling. On the other hand, the black/tan car at the same dealer for $129k was reported as sold but it's still listed as for sale on the dealers web site. That dealer seems to mark sold cars as sold with regularity.
Huh? I'm angry because I told you guys about a GTS 6 speed on the market for $69K? For all of you folks who think that's a steal then I am happy to help you find one and here it is, now give me a hug!
Yellow GTS looks like it may have had some repairs up front. Hood/fender/light doesn't seem to line up correctly on the passenger side. Other than that and needing the dash recovered it looks pretty good.
Latest issue of Sports Car Market listed a yellow spider as sold "at retail market" at $59K. Since I gave the mag away, I don't have the details available, but SCM is always sketchy there anyway. It was listed as very well kept, Cond. 2-. Less than 20K miles FWIW, I was lucky enough to have dinner with a guy who plays in the big leagues with the HEAVY hitter collectors. He said that despite the fact that they are true collectors, they are cashing out of many of their cars. If you believe in the trickle-down theory, where do you think that leaves us with our 'driver' quality cars?
When dealers move a car to another dealer its still sold, the car, title and cash all traded hands so its still Sold. I know what you're saying.
Well Autotrader has 32 cars listed, seems less than usual. Half fall between $60-80 K The big buck MG has an 8000 mile example listed for $259,000, also another with 1600 miles for UNLISTED, this one could break $300 K Half dozen in the 50s and below. I know asking price, but 2 years ago when I was really looking they would have at least 60 listed, rarely one over $90 K.
I've been making that point for months. No one has been listening. People here only comment on the high dollar cars and make disparaging comments on low priced cars. No one was interested in that car last spring when it was for sale locally in CT for, as I recall, $50k. The black car was report sold, a few pages ago in this thread. Never happened.
John, As you know, the yellow GTS from CT ended up with Jim Lyons on the west coast. A member here did a PPI on the car and hopefully he will chime in. Let's just say we dodged a bullet on that one and there's a reason it's still for sale.
If the black at 130k is really worth it, or even worth 100k, why would that yellow that needs attention not be worth 50k, even if it had a salvage tittle? It's discounted by 50% or more. News flash, the blue 95 that everyone hates is now listed as sold at Exotic motors. Wasn't this morning as I recall, or maybe that was yesterday. Now, let's see if it actually shows up at Chicago Motor cars. If not, perhaps it really sold. If it does show up there it demonstrates what I was saying earlier about dealer swaps and cars listed as sold.
John, Dealers move cars all the time from one dealer to another. If you can get access to the dealer section of the Mannheim websites, you'd see that just about half of every dealers inventory of exotics is available at any time to other dealers at a wholesale cost. That's just what they do. According the exotic cars, it is sold. Sold to the dealer in Chicago. I fully expect the blue car to show up in Chicago, but I could be wrong. I didn't say the black car is worth 100. The yellow one has been sitting with Jim Lyons because it does have issues, and in my opinion, because it's an F1. As I recall, it was so bad that the rear view mirror was sitting on the floor when it went in for PPI. Bah humbug.
Yes, I know they move them. You haven't been reading my posts. Just glue the mirror back on. Not a biggie. Anyway, looking at Ebay the last to Bs to sell were a red/tan 95 with 35k miles for $57k in May, and a black/tan 97 with 20k miles for $73k, also in May. Spiders for between $45k and $67k. 9 spiders sold. I guess some one is buying spiders.
Watch the markets ( equities not Ferraris). If this current Greece thing is just a tipping point and there is a whooshing sound, this will just be frothy chatter. Sell into strength if it's an investment.
Yes, I am well aware of that. The car that I posted was supposedly sold. This is not the blue 1995 that was listed from that dealer and is now at another dealer in Chicago. I know the 1995 blue car as well.
I really like the blue car as well. I don't think that it is the color that is holding it back, but the price for the given mileage. Drop 10-15,000 miles off of it, than I would say it is priced accordingly.
