Hey Darius, no worries I didn't even think of it!

Yeah I just post them up when I get the chance so there's at least a bit of a reference of what some actually sell for, whether during or after auction. It's not the be all and end all and I guess I shouldn't really post what a car "reaches" if it's a non sale - because auction companies are legally allowed to do stuff that would be considsered underhand and even criminal if a seller tried it on ebay!

Still other than auction info it's hard to judge values unless you buy/sell one yourself or know someone else who has - and then they'll only tell u what they want you to think....

I'm not trying to make out all the crazy pricing by other means is just hype though.

I've made the mistake too many times now where I've held off buying a second classic looking through the ads thinking damn they're overpriced now, only for them to seem cheap compared to 6 months later.

I think Testarossa's have only just started and have got a long way to go.

Despite their relative higher production - I think they've got a fan base (and therefore potential demand over the coming months/years) that exceeds any other car except for the Countach - which is literally the only other car on the planet I would rather have sitting on the drive right now!

Front bumper has been repainted. Not a big deal at all but its always best to disclose the obvious in a for sale ad. Now is a great time to sell. $125K for a quick sale.

This one went at auction the other day.

    https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22723/lot/269/

A bit cheaper at 20k GBP - but 5-10 years ago u could have nearly bought a real one for that!

Stick some blades on and it would be a fun way to cut the grass :p

Thanks. I hope they do too. I know everyone claims there cars are pristine, but that car is really a spectacular example. I only miss it in the sense that I know I will never be able to find one like that again, so that chapter in my life is now closed. However, I did have the pleasure of owning her for a few years and drove her about 7k miles... So I got to fully experience what it was to own my childhood dream car. I won't miss constantly stressing that someone would scratch her beautiful single stage paint or that she would get dinged in a parking lot or caught in the rain and on and on. I have learned that my OCD really shattered my enjoyment of the car and I became its servant rather than the other way around.

With the McLaren, like all modern cars, I can just drive the hell out of it... And I am ;)

They were very fair on the trade and their number was consistent with what I had been offered by other interested parties. It is a spectacular example with an exceptional provenance. I was not surprised by their asking price and, quite frankly, as I said before,I hope they get every penny. They are an amazing group of folks over there and could teach a master class in customer service.

I've been following the Testarossas on eBay for a while. While it looks like asking prices are up there, it seems no one's actually paying that kind of money for these cars - at least not on eBay. With the exception of the very best of the best (one with only 576 miles, for example, which reached a high bid of $140k), most cars are being listed over and over again, yet failing to bring in bids of more than $90k-$110k or so. Of course, this is just on eBay; sellers might be getting better results elsewhere.

For whatever it's worth, here's a compilation of recent ended eBay listings:

I have always said that eBay is the worst market indicator for specialty cars. People interested in my car contacted me regularly through brokers who knew of my car and made offers despite my car not even being on the market! FWIW, I bought my Testarossa from its original owner the same way. I know of a few high dollar TR sales over the last year that were all done privately. There is nothing wrong with marketing your car on EBay. It just shouldn't be your only means of marketing your car or the only market indicator IMHO.

Yeah, if you look through that list you'll notice that, over the past two months, only three Testarossas have sold on eBay: one for an undisclosed amount below $139k, a rebuilt title car for $58k, and an exceptional '91 for less than $115k. With dealer asking prices out there ranging from $110k all the way up to $200k, the action must be taking place elsewhere, because it's not happening on eBay.

The auction results posted by Dom are the real indicator. EBay is a great advertising tool...nothing more.

Maybe I missed it, but I only recall seeing results of cars sold in Europe. Unfortunately, that's never been a very good indicator of U.S. market selling prices either.

True...they are European auctions but they are LH cars. Cars will go to where the high demand is. Seems the British and French are in a Testarossa buying mood.

I sold both of my cars via ebay. Both had good offers within 4 days. One sold, (The rebuilt car mentioned earlier) for 61k actually. Went to a Hedge fund manager in California, came out, drove it, paid. The other (Maranello) had a buyer within about a week. Just didn't find his voicemail in my phone until two weeks later, yikes! Buyer bought the car sight unseen and shipped it. Both were rebuilt title cars. So in both cases, the buyers at the other end were real and ready to buy then and there. Which was one thing I did fear when listing them (non paying bidders). Just my experience so far. The market price on ebay is not wholesale by any means. But it does appear to be slightly below the market price IMO. Hope this helps.

I purchased my TR off of ebay and got a very good deal in a very bad market. I think what bothers most is they want to buy it cheap and score the big kill when selling. Not going to happen. Quality cars take time to find and the really exceptional ones are not going to be given away for a cheap price. Want a deal? Do what I did, find a nice restorable unit and take the time to make it the way you want it. In the long run you will save some money, but you will make the car yours. But above all.....you will have a TR that will be finished to a current standard. That alone will make the car more desireable. A car with nice paint, decent interior and a complete major with a clean bill of health will draw more attention to those who want it now. I can wait and with it my TR will become a car made for TP.....not joe q public.

For anyone looking for a project like that - asking price of $89,500:

    1988 FERRARI TESTAROSSA

No affiliation, of course. No clue what this car needs beyond recovering the steering wheel and correcting the cavallino situation, but I wouldn't call it "stunning and very original" in its current state.

There is a reason that car, or any car for that matter lands at Gullwing or the west coast version ....Beverly Hills Car Club. Some great deals and some not so great deals. Most need serious work. That is their business model.

So is this now the new normal? A 1986 stock Testarossa with 18,000 miles is now available for a paltry $250,000??
The single mirror variants always were at the low end of the price structure. This is a fact but maybe something changed in two months.
    what does a 512 M bring?? A million dollars??

Define not so great. Cars that require work are a bargain. If you can't do the work....then it isn't for you. For people like myself....I never lose on cars like these. And when no one wants them...you determine what your going to pay....not the market. Not too many are running crazy to buy a car that needs a major. If you do it yourself.....you can put 5-10k in your pocket.
