Mine was indeed an 88.5 and it was s/n 77068, if I remember correctly (I usually do). I have tried to buy that car back from the guy I sold it to and he said he's never letting it go. I owned that car for 7 years and it was really great to me.
Is there any complete or near complete record of GTB's produced for the 328 series? Curious about rare color combinations that are few in numbers brought to the U.S.
As far as US cars this is the most complete public record. Prugna is the most exotic, 1 of 1 (81569). There are two two Grigio's, both 1987's and two Verde's, a 1988.5 and the last US 328 GTB, of course a 1989 model. Grigio on black (69459) would be a cool color to see, very modern. And I would love to find the one Argento/Beige car made (61347). -F
There are three cars on the list that are in Europe right now: 1987 70739 RC/Beige Mar 87 73953 RC/Beige (build date?) 1988.5 77028 RC/Beige (build date?) -F
77028 has been built in April 1988. 73953 was probably built in August 1987, perhaps early september. Rgds
I'll put 77028 as an Apr 88 build and 73953 as a Sep 87 build as I don't see any 328 GTB that were built in August during the full run of the production. Any idea as to the original dealers on these cars? -F
No, no idea but I don't know the US dealers network at all! You do not take much risk in choosing September rather than August: remember that the factory closed shop completely for four weeks during those years during August, so the probability that a car was assembled in August is usually limited to the three days that were open... Rgds
Exactly. I thought there was at least some work done in August but looking at the registry, over the five years of production, there were no cars built in August. -F
Exactly : it was customary at the time in Italy, almost all activity (industry, administration, etc ) stopped to a standstill during August; the slowdown can still be observed today, but it doesnt stop completely anymore. (And BTW, it is, to a certain extent, the same during the second and third weeks of August in Paris, when Paris is almost completely empty of Parisians. Usually a nice period for vacation, but some restaurants are closed and the weather can be too warm sometimes; mind you, we officially had 39,5° Celsius yesterday, which is 103 F. Hottest July 1st in Paris since 1947) Rgds
80682 in US May be sold new in Italy and never cross the ocean ? I think some US collector will spend $$$ http://www.craveluxuryauto.com/web/vehicle_photos/22310586
That car according to my records has a "G" VIN making it an 86 but the serial number suggests a September build date and right in a long run of 87's. Any chance you have a picture of the door plate?
Yes I know...it is strange because according to Alberto, that car spent all its life in a location in Italy, actually near the factory. The car has been advertised on different media in Europe (well, actually from Italy) for the last two years. Rgds
I don't believe I do. Last I know, it is owned by IDV8GTB who told me the car is without its warranty book. But maybe he can take a picture of the VIN plate to confirm the MY. -F
Actually the build date would be interesting. The VIN shows it official MY. The serial number and model year suggest it was built well out of order.
Thanks bertrand. Wide World of Cars or some other NY dealer? I'll send a PM to IDV8GTB to see if he can take a shot of the build plate. -F
I went out to the car and peeked in the door with the car up on the lift. Picture shows VIN and build date. I know that the emissions sticker in the engine compartment reads MY 1986. I believe this car is a late 1986 model. Thoughts? Paul Image Unavailable, Please Login
No matter what any document or label says the G in the VIN legally makes it an 86. I have 87's with the H Vin as far back as 66301 also built in September. Makes me wonder what was up with yours that it got an MY 86 designation. Things like this are seen when there is a change in safety or emission rules pretty commonly but there were no such changes on 328 in this time period. I have seen a few 90 TR's built after 91's because 90's were 50 state cars and 91's were 49 state. It was easy to understand what happened.
According to my records I have the following cars close to 66711: 66511 Sep 86 ('G' in VIN) 1987 Cars 66801 Sep 86 (Don't have VIN) 67033 Sep 86 ('H' in VIN) -F
