Misery loves company and wanted to share what happened last night. Was driving home at 10.30pm after going out for dinner in my F430. I live in Toronto (~1/5 cars over 100k). A pedestrian throws a glass bottle at my car. Most of the time, people just call me names or prior to this, the worst case was having my car spat on. But an actual bottle... is just unacceptable. Oddly I dont see obvious signs of paint damage (used a flashlight) will investigate after work.
Very sad to hear. Small minded *******. Hopefully no damage. The best you can do is continue to use the car and enjoy yourself!
That is pretty sad. Hope the damage is minimal. I guess that getting the finger from all of the eco-hippies in Montreal isn't so bad.
Serious ????? I don't drive in "downtown" areas prefer the open roads. To me a Ferrari in traffic or congested areas is no fun. Switch to a DD for ventures into town. This would seriously piss me off, but I have mellowed with age
What the hell did you do to him-was his wife in your car?! All jokes aside the guy must be a nut. Think about it-even if you were the biggest tree hugger ever you'd be afraid to throw anything at a car that expensive-the guy driving the car is going to mop the floor with you and we're not talking about a fist fight Probably good you just kept going-it could have turned out a lot worse
Parking in town is a crap shoot also. No joke, my pal at work has a friend with an orig E30 M3 that got totaled 2 weeks ago while parked on tremont st (Boston). The guy was having dinner. Man that sucks and you can't replace that
Sorry to hear that... That is crazy, I live in a small town of about 120,000 people and everyone just takes pictures nothing negative really.
Very sorry to hear of your incident. Unfortunately you are not alone. When the good weather started this year I got into the habit of going for a drive early Saturday mornings while it was still dark - no traffic, no idiots wanting to race, no morons nearly crashing into your car while trying to take pics, etc. The last time I did this there were a few 'youths' going home from somewhere and as I approached one of the idiots raced towards me and tired to kick the passenger door. I swerved and luckily he missed. Needless to say not even the wee hours of the morning are safe. Stupidity has no bounds. I sincerely hope you have no damage and glad you were not hurt.
You're lucky, so far all the responses are sympathetic. I had a thread here on Fchat when my Ferrari was spit on while parked at an ice cream parlor one summer night. A lot of the responses were basically assuming it was somehow my fault. That pissed me off even more than the spit. Anyway, realizing the resentment and vitriol that the car creates seriously has affected my enjoyment of driving it. I know it shouldn't, but it does. Hopefully there is no damage to your car.
So is apathy, sloth, and entitlement. Something far too many people seem afflicted with. The clown that tries that with me won't be so lucky.
Golden rule: Never interact with members of the public. It sounds like you did the right thing and kept driving.
Dont drive a red ferrari esp in traffic or cities. A red Ferrarri is taken by most as the drivers shouting out hey look at me, you will get good and bad responses. No one notices a grey one except those into cars. there si a reason why a matadors cape is red. Ferraris are for open roads, if you DD one, there are lots of idiots out there, and why would you DD a fast road machine in traffic. It is hilarious though that eco leftist people preach peace love etc but feel perfectly free to violently express themselvs, I guess its because they feel themselves to be in a hubristic state of grace.
Been driving Ferraris for almost 20 years. Never had an incident like that. Never. Generally people are quite friendly, ask to take pics, want to sit in the car. I always accommodate. Sorry you've been hassled. Art
I dont, im generally a nice guy. If a local car spotter wants to take pictures for a shoot to build out their portfolio I am more than happy to accommodate. But after an incident like this... My attitude may change towards others.
I've had the same positive experience as you albeit only a 10 year owner. Maybe it's Kalifornia... 😃 Kai
I can beat that, no serious problems in 35 years but I do drive blue cars! To a large extent it also depends on the car. I generally get a positive response to the GTC and motorcyclists - including some of the most fearsome looking 'Angels', regularly give me a wave or thumbs up. On the other hand, a lot of people deliberately block progress of a Marnello, or refuse to let you filter into traffic. But it is the same with a Merc or BMW and was even worse on the few occassions I got to drive a RR Silver Shadow - that really stirs up the hate of some bystanders. So many people seem to think that a nice car comes from handed down riches or the expliotation of 'The Workers'. I am prepared to wager that many F-Chat members worked damn hard for a long time to fulfill their dream. I also make a point of trying to be friendly, including the odd ride for genuinely enthusiastic kids.
I've owned a 328, Boxer, and now 612. I have lived with Ferraris mostly in North Carolina, and for small periods in Atlanta and Denver. No issues. I have always gotten positive responses from the general public. Occasionally, an annoying BMW M-nut will try to show-off in an unsafe manner, but I find the public is always excited to see F-Cars. I have never heard of anyone else being threatened or harassed in any way. Since the event occurred late and it was probably dark, I'm wondering if it was just a random attack. We've also had problems here with kids throwing bottles at cars off of over-passes. etc. Glad no one was hurt.
