Hi Paul - I love what technology is doing (and forcing the old guard to accept) in the field of medicine.

This was my one serious complaint after my 3.2 was delivered. The thing weighs about the same as my Limousine Like MAXX! And is no tighter either. Somehow I always had the idea Ferraris were made from aluminum. NOT!

Just think how these cars would scamper at 2,900 lbs. The same weight as my 1965 Corvair convertible! I got used to it but Enzo lost a bit of his charisma in my book.

PS: My 1984 Z-28 5.0L weighed 3,300 lb. Had an actual rear seat. The hatch would accept a 4x8 ft piece of plywood, and would do the 1/4 mile in 15.0 seconds at 94mph. It handled well [I just followed the 944 Porches around Summit Point with my left arm out the window and steering with one hand].

But it was no Ferrari Mondial! My 3.2 IS faster, it is a much more serious mechanical device. The clutch and tranny in the Z-28 was refined compared to this Mondial but shifting the Mondial is seriously involving. I do not want my Mondial to shift like a perfectly lubed Swiss watch Subaru WRX [seriously impossibly good].

I like the he-man steering, even though I could almost certainly drive faster with electric steering which I considered at first. The engine? A little bitty flat cranked four valve that seriously seems fast. It IS faster then the Z-28 but the Ferrari always seems to make you think you are going faster then you are while that wheezy 5.0L Z-28 always ran out of breath at 4,500 rpm.

OK. The Z-28 would outrun a 308 ANYTHING on just about any road, but it would not seem like it. And the 3.2 and especially 3.4 WOULD outrun my Z-28. And SEEM like it was smoking its butt even though it might only be .5 seconds ahead. Anyway. I like both cars for what they are. The competent Z-28 that could carry full sized plywood sheets in the back costing $13,000 and my Mondial that makes me feel like Novaro (?) at $50,000.

Its just a different thing. Apples and oranges.
