    Spot on.

Although I'd say Kimi is consistent this year.

    Consistently ****.

It's a cut throat business, and they are being paid millions of $.

***** footing around the obvious is not part of the deal.

So, is it the Merc motor alone that put the Williams' ahead of the Scuderia?
If so what does that bode for the rest of the fast tracks?

Merc supposedly has a "qualifying setting" on their engines that give them a bit more oomph (according to Vettel), but it can't be used during the race because it over-taxes the pu. Ferrari should pass Williams (and Silverstone provides chances to do that, unlike the A-1/Red Bull Ring.

The Achilles heel of Williams are the slow corners and at Silverstone there aren't many. Also now probably have engine updates. It's not going to be easy to beat them for the rest of the season.

+1, looking at pole percentage neither are close to Senna. Lewis is at 28%, Seb is at 30% and Senna was 40% and Seb and Senna started their careers in back marker teams, not the best car on the grid.

What was Jimmy's percentage? I seem to recall it was around 50, albeit over a much smaller sample size. But that could be the rose tinteds.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

Another guy who was impressive at this was Arnoux, even if he was at top teams from 79 to 85, he never drove the best car of the season, had very good team mates at a time where there where several competitive cars, yet he made 18 poles!!!

It's easy to forget that Senna really only drove for 10 seasons (6 with competitive teams)...in contrast, Lewis is at 9 seasons now and Schumacher competed for, what, 19 seasons?

Which is partly why some of Michael's records will never be surpassed. I may be wrong - Hammy's certainly off to a fine start, but I can't see him, or even KI, doing this 10 years from now.

FWIW, I kind of like the 'pole percentage' as a 'significant'' measure of a jockey. Jimmy could put a tractor on pole! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Now about that boost?

What parameter is it legal to change?
And does Williams and all MB supplied teams have the same steering wheels?

I believe it's the somewhat mysterious (to most anyway ;)) "engine map". They're not physically changing anything (outside the knobs position of course!) but their lives get better/worse..... ;)

Again, I believe they at least have the option. "Each manufacturer may only have one homologated PU".

Whether the customers have access to it, or even choose to use it, at the same time is another debate. We know for example that FI chose not to until this W/E. We've also 'heard' Merc couldn't supply everyone first time out IIRC.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Here we go again. Comparing drivers from different eras. Who the hell cares?
There will always be some reason why another driver was better.
It can be percentage, quality of competition, for some people it's the car they start their career with....lol

You can drive for 15 season, but if you're stuck in a crap car for 14 of those how does that help? What if you qualify on pole for your first race then die before your 2nd race.
Are you now the greatest polesitter of all time?

At the end of the day, records are the only thing that matter. Whoever gets more than 68 will be at the top of the list. Everything else are opinions of individuals that have ZERO value.

Engine map sounds like electronic parameters.
They can change the dwell and gap the points in motion?
    Gadzooks!

Remenber what Gordon Murray came up when they tried do stop skirts from touching the floor? He just invented a device the would lower them during the race and rise them at the end...everyone could see the cheating but nobody could measure gownd clearence while the car was running....simply brilliant...a couple of races later everyone was doing the same!!!
