Hahaha, Rosberg in RTL: "I catched up with Lewis in the rain and I was very confidend that I can pass him...Then Hamilton went into the pits and I thought that this was the wrong decision and I was still confidend just to get into the rain a few corners later..." But he smiled all over the face so he did not look too dissapointed.
They need to interview Maldanado. I need to learn how to hit 3 cars, the final one being your teammate!
Only one....it's a good day then. I thought he got pinched and then lost it spearing into gros. Either way, he clearly clouted his teammate. Never a good strategy from the teams standpoint....
Sorry to say this Steve, but I'd have to say you do in this case!....... He certainly drove well, but surely even you must admit he got very lucky with the timing of his stop - Nico saying he thought Hammy had pitted a lap too early - Didn't work out that way - Lady luck played a big part.
Nico has been driving very well since Monaco...that win seemed to restore his confidence (even if it was due to a mistake with the Hamilton pit). His WDC campaign is very much alive with only a 17-pt gap. He was looking most like the rain-master today while driving on slicks. Timing/luck was on Ham's side with the pit for inters though. Pleased to see Vettel still maintaining contact, even if he has a ton of work to do. 59 points is not too bad if Merc has any attrition.
His skill is responsible for his 46 poles, 38 wins, 2 championships. Some races go your way like today and some don't like Monaco. It could have easily stopped raining or he could have pitted 1-2 laps earlier and put the wrong tires. He lost the 2007 rookie championship because McLaren left him out too long in the Chinese GP. Good calls and bad calls are part of the game. Do you think Vettel would have been third today if not for the good and bad calls? What's your point?
Add to the fact that he actually made the call...winners tend to make their own luck. Vettel made the right decision to follow (although it was actually raining when he came in...just in the right place at the right time). I think the stats you quoted tell the story...you don't get lucky 38 times, with Senna's career win total in sight covering the same number of starts.
I didn't say that luck doesn't have a huge part to play in anyone's career. I simply made the observation that anyone who thinks that today's result was from anything other than luck is delusional. Or, at best, hypocritical.
Well done Ham. 3 British GP - not bad. Timing helped, but overall, Ham took his chances and got a touch lucky with his second stop. Williams - basket case strategy calls. Not surprising as they have the B team of Massa and Smedley to rely upon. Bottas - didn't think much of him today. Couldn't get passed the old timer Massa and then performed poorly in the wet. Remove from Ferrari wish list... Raik - surely he's gone past the point of no return now. He has to go. Vettel - nice job for outperforming initial expectations and using rain luck to grab 3rd against the odds. Ricci - his star continues to fade. Clearly an over rated driver who has proven himself unworthy of being categories in the same class as Ham, Alonso and Vettel. Alonso - congrats on a first McLaren point, although gifted by rain and a whole heap of DNFs. Unfortunately this doesn't reflect McLaren performance improvements as too much luck was involved. Overall an entertaining race but the fundamental F1 issues remain and no amount of rain assisted window dressing can change that fact.
Yes, only a fool would take down these stats only to luck but nevertheless luck was a big factor today...Nothing else was said over the last pages so I do not see your point quoting the stats when talking about todays race...Vettels achievements are also not because of pure luck but even he admitted that today luck/rain helped a lot...Why do you think that this would take anything away from Hamilton if some admits that he was lucky today as well?
I have no problem with it, but there is double standard for everything he does. Nico thought it was the wrong call. If it didn't start raining Lewis would be crucified like in Monaco. In Monaco most put all the blame on Lewis even though the team was flip flopping the decision. Lewis was the fool that day, but today he was just a lucky SOB. Can you honestly say that the next time Lewis has a bad call you will say he was unlucky not to win today?
Well Ian above is what I posted at the time, so yes implying an element of luck was involved. However it is the pathetic boneheaded Ham hate comments I find completely ridiculous on here, to me it only serves one purpose, and that is to quit me posting, I can turn the brightness up on my PC, but unfortunately it hasn't got an intelligence button. At least Aircon has a laugh, and like you, knows a lot of skill is required to pull off a win like Ham did today......it's the myriad of excuses of why's, if's and but's, that Hamilton gets no matter what he does, to be honest has become so tiresome...it is beyond the joke.
you make your own luck... Scuderia Ferrari ‏@ScuderiaFerrari 32m32 minutes ago #Kimi7 'The track was slippery I almost spun so I decided to come in for inters. Probably I made the call 4 laps too early' #BritishGP 52 retweets 53 favorites
Yup. Just like Schumacher in Ferrari and Vettel in RB. The only unlucky part is that he doesn't have Barichello or Webber as his teammate so he can break even more records.
Awesome race. For once someone gave the Mercs a run for their money. High point, Hamilton's pit stop just before the rain. Brilliant call Low point, McLaren gets a point from 8 cars dropping out and the announcers wet themselves. I thought Kimi did a really good job today. The team screwed up the early pit for the Inters. Oh and to Massa.... team orders ain't so bad when you're in the lead, aren't they?
