The Atom is just a track toy. A big kart with a Honda engine. No big deal really. Any half decent garage can build such a thing.
Cracking good fun on a track day but on the odd occasion I've seen them on the road I'm thinking, I hope you're on your way to a track day because, if you're not, what were you thinking!
I have checked my facts and they are below - this information is from Ferrari.com 488GTB 0-100km/h 3.0s 0-200km/h 8.3s 0-400m 10.45s 0-1000m 18.7s F12 0-100km/h 3.1s 0-200km/h 8.5s 0-400m do not quote a time 0-1000m do not quote a time
no, it's not impressive, you can buy F12 Novitec with supercharger and it will beat 488, it would be impressive if 488 have NA engine
Giallo/nero 488GTB at Spa: I hope that's not a repost ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyHgLFA3N7A thanks to the author /Norberto Buchheit/
Yes, you can spend more money to modify a more expensive car to go faster. How is this relevant? The point was that stock vs stock the 488 is in the same league as the F12 in terms of acceleration. I'm sure the next V12 Ferrari will be even faster still.
Canon MP4-12C was as fast as the 488 when being launched in 2012, and.......It's not doing well. 458 was not even close, but smoked the Canon in sales quantity. This shows that passion is still more important than numbers. IMO, 488 will end-up like the Cali T, and next V8 mid engine won't be turbocharged anymore.
I should be impressed by turbo performance? Many teens do the same at their parents garage with Supra 20 years ago, I would be more impressed if Ferrari stay NA with V8 in opposition to most car companies, that would be something
I completely agree with you, Mclaren build V8 TT car for many years but some people at this board act like Ferrari was invented turbo yesterday ....
Yah no. Those Supras drove just a *little* differently. Modified cars break all the time too and usually can't run at the track without cooldowns or other issues.
The 12C is not faster than the 488. It also had appreciable turbo lag and issues with the driving experience due to the overbearing technology/computers.
They still drove like crap compared to a 488 in a straight line. At that time, there was no way to get big HP out of a smallish engine without using huge turbos. The result was terrible throttle response and massive lag...followed by insane acceleration. Comparing turbo setups from the 90s to the 2010s is nonsense. Massive progress has been made since then.
yes but Ferrari is not the only one, Nissan, Porsche and Mclaren do the same some time ago , só why I should be impressed?
Because basically every review says that this car is better than the rest. I guess you won't know until you drive it, if one is fortunate enough to do so. ...and the only cars I'm aware of that are turbo with this kind of engine response are the BMW F8x M3/M4 not any of the others you mention. But if all you want to do is go fast in a straight line, then get a Nissan or a Lambo with all-wheel-drive-yourself. Throw an aftermarket kit on it, and get 1K HP. Some people like that...I think it's insanely boring personally.
