This is one of my biggest pet peeves. My aunt lost both arms and legs to flesh eating disease. She was one of the first cases in Canada. I've driven her places and some area's its near impossible to find a spot, even handicap. Even though some handicaps are not visible, Id bet 99% of those using handicap spots with plates/placards are not the handicap person!

I use the spots with my aunt only. I also only use it temporarily, to load and unload my aunt. I have the placard in my Cayenne, never used it without my aunt.

    Agreed.

When I was driving my stepfather to therapy after his stroke I confronted a few drivers who parked in a handicapped space without a placard or proper plates, just my makeup, and was met with respect. A large percentage of people who are helping do not know about the laws in place regarding such issues and are respectful but there are those who do not give a crap and want to save themselves from having to walk an additional 10-15ft.

    I am a rambling man.

The problem is in Arizona they give them out to just about anyone. People take the hang tags from their parents car to their own. It seems like 50% of the cars in Arizona have handicap parking.

Same in Oregon, in downtown 8 out of 10 people in one block would have handicap placards because they gave them free parking, don't mess with revenue.
They finally started charging the handicap placard people along with everybody else .... they all went away.
