He rolled the dice. I think that he's beginning to let his precarious position on the team effect his judgment.
I will agree that Kimi is not the best in the wet. Anyone who has driven at speed on a wet track knows that the first thing you loose is grip in the front at turn-in. Then, you have to be patient with the throttle at exit. Once Kimi loses that feel at the front, he can no longer push to the limit. He always has been, and always will be, like that. Perhaps that is why the decision was made to bring Kimi in early. Reduce his number of laps on slicks in the wet. Unfortunately, as we all know now, the really wet stuff didn't hit soon enough to take advantage...
I'd say they rolled the dice. According to many here at least, he doesn't give a ****, so why should *anything* affect his judgement? I too was certainly hoping for more from him. Disappointed to say the least. But, even his detractors must surely concede he's had some terrible breaks this year too. Cheers, Ian
+1 Arrivabene said that if it continued to rain Kimi would look a genius. FWIW Alonso and a few others also pitted on the same lap as Kimi. I think they're all washed up and should go to the retirement home soon too... .
"They" didn't pull Seb in for inters. Sooner or later it has to be more than just a long string of bad luck.
Wouldn't it be funny if Kimi did a seat swap with Bottas? Two failed Ferrari drivers re-united in a better car, beating the Scud. Nw that would be hilarious (and unlikely..)
IMO, we don't really need Bottas. I think JEV or Hulk will get the job done. We need a clear number one at Ferrari, and a fast number two.
I am a huge Kimi fan, don't have anyone else that I cheer for but he has never been good in the wet. That, combined with the current stressful situation he has placed himself in along with the fact that Vettel had just caught up and passed him, gave him a lot of reasons to roll the dice. It is always hard to judge on TV but it seemed like a mistake at the time. That said, it seemed like it was the wrong call when Hamilton pulled in also (but not by the time he pulled out)
Agree that Ferrari does not need Bottas. Who is JEV?, and again Hulk is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT fast. At best Hulk is a Frentzen. Pete
Jev = jean eric vergne. He was good and always matched his team mates. Out scored kvyat quite easily and they dropped him and did well against ricciardo. I don't get why he is overlooked its stupid.
JEV outscored Kvyat because Kvyat was a complete rookie, and mostly had issues with his car. Kvyat actually did very good from early on against him. JEV matched Ricciardo but when the RBR seat opened up Ricciardo blew him away. Now that Kvyat has settled into RBR he's had the upper hand last 4 or so races...
Well Ham was a rookie and Alonso couldn't outscore him. Verstappen and Sainz seem to be doing just fine too. I don't buy the rookie excuse. And Ricciardo didn't "blow him away" - finished a little bit ahead here and there. Be interesting to see if Kvyat continues the current form but nevertheless, JEV certainly deserves to be in f1.

You don't think it's the least bit relevant of someone who had no experience with an F1 car and coming straight from GP3 vs someone who had several years in F1?

I don't think being a quick driver is enough to ''deserve'' a seat. He had a great oppertunity for 3 seasons to prove himself but he didn't. Time for the new guys to try. JEV certainly isn't ****, but not a future world champ either.
What about the entire 2014 season? lol Kimi clearly isn't motivated at all. So many guys would give their left nut for that ferrari seat. Kimi doesn't give a ****.
Button was quicker than his teammates most of the time. He entered F1 too early in a high profile team but once he got his head sorted out he was usually faster than his (proven) teammates (including Villeneuve). JEV frequently struggled against Kvyat... Kimi has said plenty of times: If he's not motivated, he wouldn't bother with F1. Yes, 2014 was utterly ****, but he's been fast this season in the races.
2014: jev 22 pts, kyvat 8 pts? second half of the season JEV did really well i recall. Not sure where the struggle is? Kimi says it but his actions tell us otherwise. Yes kimi has been fast at times but too inconsistent to get points on the table.
While out of the car, he likes to project the illusion of not giving a **** and being the Iceman, but if his frantic radio calls are anything to go by then I'd say he actually cares a great deal. He realised that Mika Hakkinen escaped most of the McLaren PR duty, which was then lumped onto David Coulthard, by simply being less than chatty. Raikkonen took this to an extreme level and escaped all McLaren PR duty by being as warm and cuddly as a carved ice statue. He loves racing but hates PR work and has continued in a similar style to minimise the latter as much as possible. Clients, sponsors, and interviews are all bull**** to him - and clearly not putting in even the smallest modicum of effort into that which he finds bull**** is refreshing to see when so many other drivers pay to secure their seat out are hired for they diplomatic skills. Clearly, he knows this: David Coulthard (interviewing): "Kimi why do you think you are the fans favourite driver?" Kimi Raikkonen: "I'm honest and don't bull**** like the others." Unlike some world champions, he doesn't put on an emotional display every time he sees a camera nearby and nor does he take to twitter to talk about his feelings, but doesn't mean he doesn't care. Kimi Raikkonen is not just a driver first and foremost, it's the only thing he is. All the best, Andrew.

That all certainly makes sense. If I were a race driver I wouldn't wanna do any PR **** either. I also like to be honest and hate people who are PC and suck up to people so Kimi is great in that regard. Maybe he is still motivated but just has lost his touch. Will be a sad day when Hamilton starts sucking. Alonso and Button probably don't have much longer either… maybe 2 years and then they are kimis age? And he went off after 2013.
