Hi 355 owners, I have a 1999 355 F1 that had a 360 steering wheel fitted by the previous owner. During the Alberta (Canada) DOT motor vehicle inspection they discovered the air bag was missing. I have ordered a 360 air bag so am keen to know if the 360 steering wheel air bag will plug into the 355 air bag wiring harness, will the air bag system work properly and pass inspection.
Any experience you have with this conversion that you can share will be much appreciated.

Also are there any reputable shops in the Edmonton area that work on F cars?

    Thanks

    Ken

Yes, they share the exact same connector. I made sure my battery was switched off (front, right). It's an easy install and a great upgrade.
Do a search and you'll find a thread in the DIY sticky section that documents the wheel swap and includes pictures.

Funny thing is the original airbag is out of date.

How about get a used 355 wheel and bag install them for the inspection!

No problems at all as long as you buy a proper 360 wheel and airbag.

They fit, work perfectly and look 1000x better.

Most importantly, the 360 wheel feels better every time you drive your car.

    Gang,

I've been thinking about this mod for a while and while I see a good number of 360 steering wheels in the aftermarket and used market, they are all without the airbag (like in the pic).

What can one do here? Are there airbags out there that will work? I'm assuming the airbag in my 355 wheel will not transfer over.

Also, if there is not an airbag option that's not prohibitively expensive and I am forced to go without a working airbag (not crazy about that idea, but ok) is there a "dummy" airbag I can fit that will look OEM but just not function?

    thanks.

Went with the 360 wheel with functioning airbag, I would be wary of install w/o functioning airbag- insurance coverage concern in accident-worst case scenario.

Agree 100%, just takes a little bit of seat time to get used to the smaller diameter wheel.
