As long as they make fewer than the market will take exclusivity is assured. There's no magic number. In any case I wouldn't take Ferrari published production numbers as gospel.
New Dino! I have seen many people wanting this for a while. What do you guys wish for it? High reving v6 with manual for me please! Ferrari Confirms The Return Of The Dino : FUTURE TECH : Tech Times
In 2018? I hope it's still an internal combustion engine and has a gauge or two that isn't just an electronic display...
Coming of Dino is inevitable #1 reason Chinese market has lower taxes on cars with less than 3000cc hence the V6 turbo Hopefully it will come with a gated shifter option
Nothing new here, unfortunately. They appear to be referencing the same AutoCar article that we discussed here over a month ago.
I wasn't complaining about the post; only clarifying for those who might be getting excited prematurely.
What I do not understand is this: they plan to make a car (Dino) that is expensive and that will not dilute the brand Ferrari. So why call it a Dino and not a Ferrari? Porsche created a cheaper, but a very capable entry model but still call it Porsche. I do not understand the logic.
Historically speaking the original Dino was not a Ferrari but a brand by itself This time around Sergio seems to be indicating it will be a Ferrari
So what is the excitement? That a new model will have the name Dino? That the new model will get a cheapo engine? Because it can not be the cost.
Exactly. What is the point of using the Dino name if you're putting it on a car that could be badged Ferrari? A Dino needs to have a unique quality. Smaller, lighter and cheaper or it makes no sense.
Agreed. I am also completely unconvinced that they are capable of designing a car that could do any justice to the beauty of the original Dino. I don't even know if it's possible to anymore, with all of the safety regs that exist these days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Every new Ferrari creates excitement with motoring enthusiasts BTW Love the sandy beaches of Grand Cayman
I doubt it's possible. IIRC, given the distances required from the driver's head to the top of the windscreen, the geometry of cars like the 246, 308, Countach, et al probably isn't feasible these days. Then there are bumper heights, airbags, and so on.
Yes, every new FERRARI creates excitement. But will a DINO do the same among the wide public? Or only amongst the connoisseurs? As we know, there is a lot of value and perception in a brand name. Thank you for your kind comment about our beaches! The design should be possible. Even the size. Look on the Mazda MX5. Or Alfa Romeo. But a V6 engine? For that money, no thanks
I remember posting something last year that a new Dino is a win/win for FCA and could really help them. I'm not surprised the rumours of them actually doing it get stronger and stronger.
I've been reading about rumors of a new Dino for years.....and now again (though nothing more than plans of a project still-to-be-approved): Ferrari to revive legendary Dino with stunning new supercar - Daily Post Does anybody know more about this? Yet another rumor, or this time maybe something more realistic in the near future? (and how near?). If true, I'd be quite interested in it. "Plans to revive the Dino name have been discussed in depth by Ferrari bosses. If the project is approved, Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne has made it clear that it will be “done right”. That means this will be a true Ferrari, rather than an entry-level model built to drive volume. This, to a degree, was the role of the original Dino. “It would be a wrong association to make Dino just a cheaper Ferrari,” Marchionne said. Power is likely to come from a twin-turbo V6 engine, which would make strategic sense given plans for the company to separate from its parent Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Ferrari’s current yearly production is 7000 units, although CO2 figures are averaged across the group, bringing them in line with emissions legislation. With Ferrari out on its own and a V6-powered Dino accounting for most of its sales, the CO2 average would be less likely to exceed stipulated limits. A twin-turbo V6 is already built by Ferrari for sister brand Maserati."
Everyone is waiting for Ferrari`s next move. If they make Dino, I am sure Porsche will make 960 shortly after that.
More BS. And, the author is an idiot - my 246gt and my old 246gts ALL have/had Ferrari chassis ID plates from the factory.
Ultimately, whether he intends to or not, I am afraid that Marchionne's drive to greatly expand production will end up reducing the longer-term value of the current and future "standard" production Ferraris and will increase their depreciation rates.
If there is a true motive for Ferrari to increase production, unless their view towards "Parts" supports significantly changes, the Marque is going to be doomed. It is amazing how many German makers have historic parts focus and Ferrari has basically none.
