I tried to place an order for the new F12 a few months ago when I first heard the rumours, I tried my local dealer and also with Maranello, as I thought I had a good relationship with them. I was told that it was not very likely, it appears I am not Ferrari enough!! Even though I have had a V12- 456, V12- 550 Barchetta, still have a V12- Daytona and a V12- 599. I was told you must have bought a few new cars from a dealer before going on the list, with this method it looks like I will never be allowed to buy a new car, this is despite being invited to test drive the F12 on a track early on in the year which jumped at. This was run by Ferrari North Europe, so clearly they new I was interested in an F12.

Anyone else had the same thing happen?

It is exactly what my dealer told me. Does no good to have f40/50/60 but they want people who bought a couple of standard ferraris like 458, f12, cali etc. They also like people who are new to ferrari.

I think that is right. I fulfill the first category plus a long history and I know of someone who has only bought one new car but done the entire Pilota series in 18 months who has been approved.

Looking forward to thoughts of those who will be seeing the car in the metal soon. I don't think the pic posted gives a very good impression as to how the car will look in natural light.

Buying used cars gets you nowhere in line for these specials.

A collector here bought the entire line of F supercars in one go, and wanted to add LaF to complete the line. However with the only cars he's bought being an FF and F12, the factory declined his dealer's request for LaF - although they said they might be willing to "make an exception" if he paid a healthy chunk of €'s to join F1 Clienti. (Purchasing a car itself is not enough, you need to continously spend money i.e. participate, or else you will be forgotten within the next season.)

Precisely. As I have posted several times before, spending large chunks of money over time on Corse Clienti (in his case Pilota) is the golden ticket to high tier status.

I can't help but smile at some of the recent comments regarding availability of the newer version of the F12…. after reading some of the threads numerous months ago, I approached my dealer about holding my F12 order until the upgraded version was coming… I was told, rather directly, that I simply didn't reach the level of consideration for new special cars…while I have owned other Ferrari's, the F12 is my first NEW Ferrari… so I just have to settle for SEVEN HUNDRED & THIRTY EIGHT HP ! I think I'll be alright….

Not even that...I ve had 288/f40/Enzo/599GTO and 458 Speciale Aperta and they turned me down!
I also had standard cars (599GTB, F12, 458 Speciale, 430 Scuderia) ordered new from authorised dealers...
There are clearly 600-800 better clients out there, so I shouldn't complain...
I bought a McLaren 650S recently without begging, so perhaps I should spend more time driving that...

This is going to be a terrific car and those of you getting it are very lucky

If that's the case, then it's not really that bad to just pay some premiums for after market. It's easier and more direct.

How did you manage to get hold of a Speciale A allocation but not this? A good dealer would have made sure you were on the list for a F12 VS.

Maybe the factory doesn't want someone to have both
Because that would lead to even fewer clients getting
special edition models - I'm just speculating ?

Doubt it. A high tier client is a high tier client regardless.

I honestly still scratch my head that those with means and influence allow themselves to be treated that way.

Many people bounce out of a Ferrari showroom into another brand

When I bought my a new 1997 F355 it was available in stock and
I got a discount oh my how things have changed.

That's the marketing skill. It's like the Hermes bag. They want to make it difficult to get, to play with your heart rather than your brain. But they also need to keep it within range that you don't jump to other brands. The more limited edition, the range is getting narrower.
IMO, if we can just sit down and think a while about this, it's just a metal being produced. It's not like diamond that man cannot produce, or properties in specific location that even one next to it has different value. So we also need to set our range too, not to force ourself too much. The most important stuff here, we are the one who is taking out money, so don't act like the one who is asking for donation.

This. It's that simple. Same for any other loyalty programme.

But there's a lot of bull**** around that too. If the Birkin bag was so hard to get they wouldn't make any profit. My experience was I walked into the Paris store with my wife, placed an order and in less than 3 months I had the bag. No special connections. So much for all the marketing spiel.

It all depends. One time I had a great sales person in Paris and we got a bag. The other time we got attitude.

Diamonds can be man made also.

If you want a Ferrari, you want a Ferrari and whether the difference is imagined or not, there is a difference.

The thing with Ferrari is that there is as any given time probably 5-10 people willing to take your spot on any product they make hard to access.

I think the current way Ferrari selects allocations and customers for special cars is overly focused on commercialism and the simple moral of "follow the money". Roughly speaking, simply catering for those that spend the most ludicrous amount of money at the right place at the right time (think 599XX -> automatic LaF allocation) doesn't create loyal clients. Because when the amount of money they spend doesn't make them cut-above the rest anymore, they move on and spend money on attaining that special status somewhere else.

IMO, the selection of allocations for car's like LaF should be based on a personal letter and a letter of recommendation from your dealer. Call it pretentious, but it's a good way to single out those who are only in it for the numbers and flipping cars. Being associated with clients flipping their special Ferrari's does not help any dealer's reputation. There's has been at least one memo distributed recently strictly informing dealers of what is in store for those not reporting or withholding information on changes in ownership on Limited Edition cars.

Ferrari wants to know, but again ultimately they don't seem to care, as long as you continue offloading large checks in Maranello you will be entitled to any car you want.

This was an interesting detail about points and how customer orders are approved!
