This is all great news. First step is the exorcism. thanks P2164. Next step is to make the immobilizer defeat reversible. This way when you sell the new owner can have it either way.

I understand the pin can be retrieved from a red fob.

Look at all the best modifications like the ones from MSW that are so good that pros have been buyers. Each MSW creation is easily reversible back to OEM stock. That extra step makes MSW mods a win-win.

I might be biased, but it still seems easier if you have an extra remote to spend $50 and create a duplicate rather than taking all those boxes out of your car and spending $875 for a re-programming that can't be undone. I'd be nervous about buying a car that's had the electronics altered.

Maybe, but it sure does eliminate an annoying and risky operating of an antiquated starting system. It's far from user friendly in its current configuration. This coming from a guy who purchased a remote and reprogram from you...gobble :)

I agree it's not a great system, especially when there's a crowd watching you at the gas station and you forget to push the button before starting the car. I'm not sure I'd go as far as removing it though.

who said it couldn't be undone? I'd be more worried about buying a car that didn't have it done.

    Jack,

do you know exactly what is altered in the process? Is it like flash reprograming a pathway in the Motronic ECU? If so that is easily reversible.

Not certain it would be best to talk to Jorge at ecu doctors but it's my understanding they put in a patch board that bypasses the immobilizer circuit which intern leaves both ignition and injector circuits active all the time. The immobilizer basically is it electronic switch that turns the power on and off to the injection and ignition circuit via a code sent from the immobilizer interface to the immobilizer chip in each ECU.

Jorge has been doing all my ECU repairs on Porsches for years. He's good and sharp and fair. ITs a bosch system so I'm not surprised he was able to figure it out. Starting with the 993 Porsche installed the immobilizer and it sucks. Not as bead as the Ferrari version but similar. He eliminates the immobilizer in those for a fir price as well.

Any luck with decoding the PIN from a RED FOB yet?

I haven't really tried. If you can make an exact copy of the original I don't see much point in spending a significant amount of time or money to dig out the pin. It's only use would be to install a new set at dealer prices. With the rolling code thing I tell people to just make one (not two) extra and keep the extra safely in a drawer. If you ever lose your original you're not screwed with a $2000 or whatever it is problem, but may have to press the button on a backup a bunch of times to catch up.

I have the same problem many of you have except with a Lamborghini right now. It only came with one remote. My only option is to buy and expensive remote/key and take the car to the dealer in Chicago for an hour of programming. If I could just copy the original for a backup I'd jump all over it.

Mike, can you share the link to the fobs / pin for $747?
I was unsuccessful in searching for it. Thanks!

If you find the right dealer in the US you can talk them down to that price and avoid the shipping cost from Australia. All new sets from the dealer come with a pin that matches that set.

I went to Ferrari of SF yesterday. They are a (the only?) company owned dealer in the US. You cannot prove to their satisfaction that you own the car and are "worthy" of having the pin.

That seems to leave the two 'A's, Arkansas & Australia as the only fixes. Do you have to remove just the immobilizer, or that and two ECUs? Roughly what is involved (355)? I have very limited DIY skills.

    Thanx,
    Richard

The problem is that without the PIN you have no safety net when out on the road in the event of FOB failure. As these old FOBs fail there will be a greater need for this.

I personally like the idea of defeating the entire system. Unfortunately, it's a big project and disables the car for a period of time.

Breaking news from ECU doctors, they have successfully made a module that replaces the immobilizer interface, this would be the only part of the system that is changed out, so NO removal or modifications to ecu or any part of the car, guys this is a plug and play deal, just change out the interface.

Jack, that's great news, and it sounds as though it would be reversible for the purists?

Yes John it is, so all a person would have to do is save the old interface. I tried to post a picture of both the old and new but evidently I've run out of my allotted free picture space. :)
