Joe, the rear reflectors had a hole drilled for a bulb. Bruce reminded me that it was for federalisation and so we are going to drop the bumper and fill the hole properly and return to euro spec. Thanks !

Whilst the car is still at Canepa, there are some minor details you could address.

The gear-box supports were originally cad-plated (not painted black) and the oil-line has been substituted with a non-original type domestic fitting - both are easy to rectify.

For your viewing pleasure I've supplied some images for reference. The top image is 56653 in current guise, and the bottom 3 images are an original car.

There are also a number of non-original spec blue hoses within the engine bay that could be swapped for original-type orange items, also an easy rectification.

By the way, if you want the ex-factory sport exhaust (Ansa F1 Megaphono) as shown in the bottom image, my son can supply it from Italy.

This is another GTO that was perhaps inspired by the Evans GTO.

 

I can't get it from where I am, but if you forward image # 3 it should be easy for them to establish it.

That would explain it. Amerispec similarly placed their iteration of the DOT-mandated side markers in the belt-line. However, Amerispec's solution was a bit more "creative" (i.e. because they were just attached with two-sided tape and contained no wiring, there was no need to drill any holes -- they were just there for "visual" purposes. Unlike the EPA compliance process where a couple of emissions test by an approved lab were mandated, the DOT -- in a more self-policing spirit -- merely required any given compliance facility provide the agency photographic evidence of all the required safety-related modifications).

 

The official requirement was a light and a reflector front and rear. The factory side marker at the front met the light requirement and so a front reflector was attached with silicone adhesive. The rear is therefore as you see it.

@Joe Sackey Speaking of that 2009 event is there any way to still get one of those 25th Anniversary Reunion t-shirts with that iconic shot of the 288 GTO on it? I know this is an extreme long shot but I had to ask after seeing a picture of it online.

 

Great question. We really should have kept some surplus, but the last batch went to family members years ago. That's the son of the owner of 56343.
