Hope this thread doesn't end up like the other 488 threads.

    Any more exterior pics?

It's fantastic. Been doing it with a few like minded people for quite a while. We are actually coming to your country for a few days driving and will take in Frankfurt motor show. Hope to see the F12VS too.

I can look it up for you later on, but great Autobahn from Memmingen to Lindau towards Switzerland. There's rarely any traffic, just a couple of areas with speed limits - and most of the road is quite new. I drive this for work quite often - sadly never in an Fcar.

Mitchell - great and comprehensive review. Quite a breath of fresh air hearing from somebody with experience an intelligent first hand account - as opposed to the keyboard jockeys regurgitating their BS daily. Nicely done - thank you!

RMitchell, just a note to thank you for the detailed review. And it is really good of you to take those kids out in your 458.

Thanks for the well written review.

More interested in fun driving experience...really no need for more speed. More torque means you dont have to shift as often through the gears to get performance. But i like shifting through the gears and hearing that wonderful 9000 rpm music.

Now if i had never seen, heard or driven a 458 i am sure the 488 would be the answer to my dreams...unfortunately i have seen, heard and driven the 458 (over 21k miles) and am still smitten.

I await the 488 test drive.

    Best

Thank you, I can say the best part by far was taking all the kids for rides. We may have benefited more than they did! Will definitely be doing it next year.

I don't know why the rev limiter will be decreased for a demo car only

This was an early car. It's not the same cars as will be trickling in as all of the dealer demo cars. I'm sure this one will start getting updates soon.

A81, Heilbronn heading north to Wurzburg. Usually great anytime of the day/week.

Wait until you clear the tunnel a few clicks north of Heilbronn, then ENJOY!!!

The long WWIII airfield is gun-barrel straight and flat. You'll know it when you see it.
    Have Fun and be Safe.

FWIW, the largest F-Car dealer (IIRC, in Europe) is right outside Wurzburg.

They are kinda 'uppity' but usually have 12 to about 20 cars on the floor to look at.

Back OT, sorry guys but I think the 488 is the best looking car Ferrari has made in many years.

    Just my 2-cents €.

Suspect higher downforce at high speed negates some of the mild power advantage of Speciale over 458...

Higher performance of Speciale over regular 458 and F12 will be evident on a track, where the Speciale will pull gains into and out of corners, with quicker lap times yet no higher straight line speed...

The real comparison should be between the McLaren 650s and the 488GTB and not the 458...

I don't know, maybe this is just the way I'm trying to bring my dissonance into harmony and justify keeping my 458 !

Seriously... the 12c was FASTER than the 458 and NO ONE CARED. The 458 was a great sales success, the 12c not so much.

Next week McLaren will bump their turbo boost and voila'! Faster than a 488. Will it sell them more cars? Nope.

Ferrari should be concentrating on the overall driving experience, not some silly numbers. That driving experience means feeling like you're in something special when you drive it, not an expensive Mercedes AMG.

Your posts lately seem to be copy and paste. I'm going to stick with my previous assessment towards how painful this transition has been for you.

As I said you're an intelligent guy. unfortunately someone at Ferrari rubbed you the wrong way when you were tossing and turning over your 458s. Bitterness shows through in the end but really there is no point in coming in here and spouting negativity like a dog marking his yard. Hopefully you can get back to the productive person you once were around here.

I started a post to try and help people answer some questions they've had after driving the car and what have you done towards the topic aside from ***** the place up once again with your biased nonsense?

You continue even after other members actually had stated that they hoped you didn't stir the pot up like you have elsewhere.

No one wants to hear from negative people who have publicly made up their mind about Ferrari in general. If some Porsche owning kid comes in here talking crap about Ferrari you guys chase him out for being a troll. Now we have someone with 50.000 posts who won't buy a Ferrari and constantly badmouthing their every move. One step higher than the troll or one less? You can probably tell what I think.

At the end of the day everyone here is right there with you. We wish that the 488 Had a 6.3l v12 in the back. Unfortunately it doesn't so we need to quit dwelling on that fact and figure out what we are going to do. I'm not going to throw a fit and say that I'm done w Ferrari and negatively rag on a car just because of this. I'm going to put on my big boy shorts and decide which way I want to go.

Your post above is dwelling on decisions made 3 years ago. Just like I hope you do in your business it's time to move on and focus on what you want to do rather than publicly complain about what Ferrari is doing wrong you're not changing anything and you're annoying people.

The customers will make their thoughts known with sales numbers. You're one person that will tell them they're wrong by not making a purchase and that's your right and you should do that. I do have my doubts, this car will be hard pressed to win everyone over. However I can tell you that it's no AMG.

I also would like to add that this forum represents a very very small portion of car buyers. Most owners park their cars in the garage for fear of depreciation or damage. They are only left to look at and brag about their car. I know for a fact these people want numbers. Even if it's 10hp more and a BS 0-200 number they'll never find out if their car is slower. I am going to go on a limb and say I think the 488 may not actually take a 650s in a straight line. We will have to wait and see.

    Pure baloney.

Its a car forum, not a psychiatrist office. We are all entitled to our opinions here. I don't tell you you're wrong for liking it. You don't tell me I'm wrong for calling out it's flaws. And, I'm certainly not the only one doing that.

If you want Fchat to be a Ferrari cheering squad, you're not going to like the time you spend here.

I will seriously look at this car next month. It may change my mind but they have a long way to go to really impress me. It might -- but it's got some work to do.

I personally don't see the need to go with this turbo motor. I don't see the advantages aside from more power which the 458 already had plenty of.

I don't care for the redline being 7500 instead of 9000

I don't care that it goes from 0-60 0.4 seconds faster than the old car. It means nothing.

I don't care that the ride is softer.

What I care about is a more fun car to drive and experience. Is it? I'm not convinced.

    Shoot me. :)

Pretty soon you can make a sandwich. I do have to say however this was the best post you've made on this topic in some time from what I've seen. Less general b!tching and some actual ideas and thoughts.

I think the softer suspension is a mistake. It was a certain turn off for me. I'm hoping it firms up for final run car. I actually didn't notice much of a difference from race to bumpy mode....

I dislike the lost revs. I too am hoping we get the 750 rpm back with the final tune. Really there is no reason we won't as 8250 is the advertised redline. I was going nuts bouncing off a 7500 limited all day. 8250 puts us inline with the v12s and that's okay. Not great but okay.

I do feel the 458 was lacking in power. We get to use the power in ways most there don't. So I will possibly have a draw to the power that you don't.

I'm going to drive it again tomorrow.... Right now, no it's not the more fun car to drive. Get 8250 rpm back, dial the suspension, fine tune the exhaust and we might get there.

It definitely has the potential but not quite on par.
