Doesn't take much for the press to declare something to be a "good chance".

 

Maybe there's more to it. I doubt the author could post every detail from his sources.

 

Like there is a good chance that a republican can get elected president in 2016........

 

Reading the latest F1 survey results I was surprised that there are so many US F1 fans.
Its time (again) for an American team or two.

 

This second US team will have to be rather quick to be ready for 2016; we are already in the second half of 2015!!

 

As long as they don't buy Honda engines they'll be fine

 

You could have 2 US GPS, plus Canada and Mexico for the US fans to attend.

I am all for more US participation; it's long overdue.

I think US teams will have problems to find suitable US drivers though...

There's no lack of American F1 pilots through history. It will take a while to prime the pump but I see no reason that there shouldn't be successful American pilots.

 

There are not many US drivers in the lower categories in Europe, that know the circuits on the F1 tour

 

If they're looking to buy an existing team as reported, they only have to be quick with the cheque and the pen.

A U.S. Team doesn't necessarily need US drivers. Right now we have an Italian team with a German, a Finn and a Mexican reserve.

On the question of driver line up, Gene Haas has said that sure, it might be nice to have an American in the car, but that's not one of his hiring criteria.

 

American drivers in an American team have more chance to interest the American public and American sponsors too.

 

Yup. Falls under the heading of priming the pump. The next US F1 Champ may still be in nursery school.

 

In fact, there are less US drivers interested in racing outside of the States than there was in the 50s and 60s! Which I find rather alarming.

Gregory, Gurney, P.Hill, Ginther, Andretti, Schell, Shelby, Hall, and a few others were racing F1 at that time. Cheever came later ...

The last US driver was Speed, I think. That wasn't a success.

 

F-1 is very popular in the USA. Austin gets about 200K people for the weekend... that is one of the largest crowds at any F-1 event.

so those that say they need more exposure in the USA - i think are really not clued in... if you are talking making F-1 as big or bigger than NASCAR - I'd say never going to happen. there is no way for F-1 to compete with NFL, MLB, NBA... or NHL.... then you add in Golf, Tennis and college sports... racing ( NASCAR dominated ) is about all that is left.

from 300 Million people that you can get 200,000 to show up and over 2M to tune in is pretty good.

Having an american driver would be nice, but its only really going to work if:

1. He is a great driver
2. in a top team - MB or Ferrari, maybe Redbull...
3. Or is a female
4. FOM - FIA really push the social media, and make it a huge media push for a Long time.

Most all of the above are not going to happen

 

A Modest Proposal

After much thought I have what I believe to be a viable plan to bring an American ace to F1.

While there is no guaranteed path to an F1 seat being the son of an F1 champion seems to increase one's chances greatly. My plan involves flooding the F1 scene with beautiful American women one or more of which is apt to hook up with an F1 luminary and produce a future F1 star.

 

Or go to the ProKart Supernationals in Las Vegas this November and find an American Verstappen

The little I know of young Max is he dominated the junior circuit. "Senna'esque car control" was one sobriquet I recall recently.....

Red Bull tried - may even still be trying (?) - to get US guys into it. Scott Speed was almost there.....
