    Well...

Also the last man who brought the driver's championship to Ferrari (and yes, I'm fully aware that 2007 was a controversial year).
Like him or not, like it or not, the fact is, and remains for the time being, that Kimi is the last driver to have been crowned at the wheel of a Ferrari...

True, they have invested a lot of money on his name; but he brought back a title, the last one Ferrari got. Nobody can take this away from him. Ferrari has also invested a lot of money on others who didn't brought a title to them.

Very true, but Ferrari's interest is not ro dwell on nostalgia.

I like Kimi, but I don't think he still got it in him to be world champ again, and maybe not even win a GP. There is something shocking about the inconsistancy of his results - some due to his team, of course. He was more convincing at Lotus 2 years ago than now.

So, I understand why Ferrari is looking somewhere else.

Oh, I don't have any question with this, William, I fully agree with what you think, this reflects my thoughts exactly.
BUT whether we like it or not, Ferrari investment on Kimi has not been totally lost, as Toil was suggesting: Kimi is the last one to have brought them the driver's title, this up to this day. You can't take this away from him. And should they have to wait 21 years again, as they did between Jody Scheckter's one and Michael Schumacher's one, well Kimi will be remembered...

There is one last thing for him to do now: win at Spa, just like he did in 2009. That would be classy.

We may have seen the last of Kimi by the end of this year.
He has said that Ferrari would be his last team.
I will miss him; he is quite a character.

His misfortune was not to win a WDC at McLaren actually, where he had a better car, only to be plagued by unrealibilty and the wrong tyres.

I like Bottles, as has been said, seems like a decent chap etc. But as others have said, he seems to be "missing" something to me. Can't define it exactly, and I think he'll have a decent career in F1, but a world beater? I'm not so sure.

Seems every time a "decent" looking rookie comes along many here want to throw them straight into a Ferrari. I guess I'm a little more conservatve; let them dominate their 'mate for a few years, preferably across a couple of teams, and then pay the big bucks to get them onboard. It's not like they need "pay drivers" like some of the others after all.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Yes, he was THE real deal in 2005, wasn't he? Ah, those three last laps at Suzuka...

I like Bottas a lot, but I don't know if he is a better choice than Kimi. I think Kimi would be faster, whereas Bottas would be more consistent. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

    Kimi to Williams.............?

I would rate Ricciardo above Bottas, and I think Ferrari should have made an offer to the Australian.

After all, Ricciardo is rather wasted at Red Bull, and he has already indicated his frustration, in spite of what Christian Horner would like us to believe.

    Fair enough! ;)

I think all the Renault runners are frustrated right now! But is he the "world beater" they're looking for? Another seemingly nice chap etc, but I'm just not sure about his "killer instinct" TBH.

    Cheers,

If Val is really going, this could put Williams in an interesting position. Their current situation is about even with Ferrari. They're not going to win any championships anytime soon using what I'll surmise is a less powerful or unlocked PU from Merc. So do they do something stunning like call up Susie? You can argue the politics all day long, but bring her into the fold, get the attention get the sponsorship and press and build a better car that can compete more and more. A hotshot driver will do no better than what their doing now. Susie brings probably the same level of talent or close to it maybe and a whole lot of other benefits.

According to many here, you or me would be faster than Ice! ;) [I beg to differ, I still think he's damn quick, but he's had some terrible luck recently.]

Doubt it. I think this time he really will be done. Personally, I'd like to see him stay next year, but also understand the "frustration" many are feeling.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Susie is too old and too slow. Pretty sure she was at the bottom of the time-sheets after the last test.

Susie Wolf would be completely hopeless in F1.

In 4 years of Formula Renault UK, she only had 3 podiums and no win.

During her year in F3, she never reached a podium.

In her 6 years of DTM, she never achieved anything.

How she was offered a test seat at Williams is beyond comprehension to me.

    Yes, I know.

But I am surprised that Frank Williams lent himself to that unashamed bit of self-indulgence.

It makes you wonder why Toto Wolff didn't recruit his wife for the same position at MB.

agreed! I still like Massa. To only mildly out perform his aging team mate in the twilight of his career is not a standout performance it is an expectation. I like Verstapan best of the possibilites but rather see Kimi with an organized ferrari team. He has had real cr@p to drive this year with a team that makes back marker decisions. I think it will take Ferrari 2 years to have a decent car anyways. Anyone who goes to Ferrari now will be wasting themselves.

Whoa... I'm not saying Susie is the best driver out there... I'm just saying it could be a strategic play for attention and sponsorship.
