So for those who don't get allocation, we should start to look at F50 now. Need to hurry up too, because there is only 1 available so far.........USD 2.59 million = Euro 2.376 million. This is definitely more than OZ's tax 33% + 10%.

As all right thinking members of this forum know Camlet's strategy which has resulted in an allocation makes perfect sense. As someone still waiting to hear if approved (but assuming I will not get the nod) I am starting to think how best to spend some money with my dealer in order to get on next list.
My issue is how to explain to herindoors that you have to speculate to accumulate. She has also spotted the flaw in the "investment" argument which is that I never intend selling special cars.
All advice/experience will be gratefully received but "change the missus" is not an option.

That's kind of you to say but can't claim any strategy other than deciding if I'm going to buy it must be very special. Four reasons: 1 I absolutely hate depreciation. 2 by definition special means a Ferrari that needs no explanation. 3, 1+2 means I hopefully don't lose money (potential profit is not a driver but any uplift if it happens is welcome) and 4, 1+2+3 so far has resulted in Mrs Camlet grudgingly accepting my addiction! ;)

A trip to Maranello to config the car and a stop at the "Birkin shop" might fix that ;) Maybe get the bag in the matching color with the car.

Hahaha. If life was only that simple. We first dated when all I had was a clapped out Mini 1000. So she's been there all the way and knows every move even before I try!

One thing I'm sure you'll appreciate is that if there's one car she is adamant will not to go, it's the 599 GTO. It's the only F car she really likes.

Sounds like our Mrs. have a lot in common (and so do we when we started dating as I had a Ford Orion to keep me dry :) ).

Mrs. M is also in love with the GTO hence why I didn't have to twist her arm on the F12 VS. She can't wait to go and see it. It's great to have a better half that is as much into cars as we are … and by the way: she never says no to a Birkin ;)

I guess we should get back on topic … sorry guys for the little detour.

Go in there and buy a lot of clothes for yourself/ your wife. Don't ask about the bags. Get the salespersons card. Call ahead the next time and tell them you want to come in and spend some more money on clothes. This time when you are buying the clothes ask if they could check if they have any Birkins in stock as you would really like to surprise your wife. They almost always have Birkins in the back and if you're a good customer you can get back there.

    Does this sound familiar? ;)

The Birkin bag is like buying a Ferrari. Once you by other Hermes bags you then can order a Birkin bag if you by from the same salesperson. Funny how that works!!

I think my wife has the same number of Birkin or Kelly bags as the number of Ferrari's I have owned hummmmmm

We once asked an Asian sales woman about croc Birkin, she looked at us from hair to toe, and told us "Birkin bag is not for anybody to just walk-in and buy one. Forget about the croc, I have been working here for 5 years and never seen one".

If it was so hard to get Hermes wouldn't have such a great business.

I'm surprised at the comments here. I don't know a woman that hasn't been able to walk in and order the Birkin she wants. Then you wait 2-3 months and pick-up. Just a total waste of money!!

IF an Hermes bag is a waste of money then a Ferrari is the same. By the way, if you feel that way, you don't need more than 2 changes of clothes, basic foods, water and you can use public transport and walk. You certainly don't need a television let alone a flat screen and let's not talk about a cell phone.

You'll probably live to be a grand old age and then die of boredom long after you have become brain dead!!

True true true. It's like other brands are so bad. Turns out they are made in the same factories and shares owned by same few groups.

You guys get off cheap with a Birkin...my better half passed on the bag, and had me buy her a California T - the seats cost more than the Birkin?
