$300,000 to spend on an investment car...

The goal is to start seeing your money work for you as soon as possible. I'm looking for a vehicle that you could sell as soon as six months and make a profit.

I'll throw out there a Murielago SV. This seems like a car that might fit the bill...

What would you buy?

 

I don't think you good by a low mileage pristine Murcie SV for 300k.

 

Ferrari F430 Scuderia. Appreciation probably won't be great, but I think given the way market is moving, they're undervalued at the moment.

Good luck in this market. Try non-Ferrari and under appreciated, if you can find that, buy 3.

 

This market might not have much more left in it... I'd try to find an early Bimmer or Porsche that was unloved personally..

therefore buying a car that has an immediate positive return is a bit difficult as the seller knows about the market just as much as the buyer. If the buyer knows about a certain market, he wouldn't be asking this question by creating this thread.

add to this is asymmetric information. Seller knows things about his car buyers don't https://www.google.com/#q=asymmetric+information

add to this is fees associated with keeping a car (maintenance, registration, insurance) that is very high compared to other investments (stocks, bonds)

add to this is transaction cost. when it comes to buying, he has to pay a dealer consignment fee or sell it himself at great inconvenience. If he has the ability to buy a Ferrari, then he has skills that pay well. He instead can use that time to earn money instead of selling a car, ie certain positive income.

add to this is sales tax (unless OP has a dealer license - in which case he shouldn't be asking us). immediate 8% loss that he can't recover.

therefore, even if he's lucky and pick out a winner, he has to expect at least an 8-10% increase in order to break even

 

I will add to the party pooper... Investing is passive or active. IMHO, value is added with work. Look for "value adding". Transaction fees hard to overcome in short term.
Perhaps a project car that someone gave up on.

 

Maybe a 512M - the rest of them should be coming down in value soon, since they made so many thousands of them.

 

Porsche GT-3 RS Manual might be a good option since future is PDK only

Well said. Basically, if we knew what the next hot item was, we'd all be trying to buy it
and the price would be driven up quickly enough to diminish any potential return.

Personally, I'd agree with vrsurgeon that the best bet is something that has thus far been generally unloved. Look into Porsche's.

 

Here in Europe the the prices of the 360CS skyrocketed in last 6-12 months. Probably the Scuderia will follow...

 

Maybe it would be a good idea to invest in a good crystal ball.

 

Another vote for the LP670. Convert to manual with factory parts (around 18K)...only 186 SV's ever made, 6 to 8 of which are manual.

 

I think converting a car to manual is fine for personal use. Not for investment , and that was the op's intention by his statement.

 

I wouldn't be too sure about that. That's certainly the one i would be investing in.

you are a little late to the game... I would buy unloved cars ... nothing in that price range... 996 gt3 or 996 turbo or a pristine early NSX or early viper. These are some under appreciated cars but I wouldnt expect appreciation, they just arent bubble-y... momentum buying is risky and not investing. To momentum buy just get something everyone is flipping top... manual cars... meh...

Cant tell it thread is serious ... no offense if it is but it almost seems like humoress ... wasentially saying you want to flip a car in this markwt...
