Great..... I just sent Fi an email. If I knew this version was coming out, I would of waited. I do have to say that the model I have 'evolution' sounds fantastic. So much better than stock. I'm actually wondering how they can make it sound better?

    If it does... I'll switch!

I went to the Fi website and they describe two exhaust systems for the Speciale. The first is "458 Speciale Evolution" and the other is "458 Speciale Ultimate Race". It's not clear to me what is the difference?

I'm still trying to understand what options there are for upgrading the stock exhaust. For example, there are three components: headers, cats and the silencer, right? Here are the options I'm considering:

Opt 1: Replace only the OEM silencer

Opt 2: Replace the OEM silencer and the OEM cats with straight pipes

Opt 3: Replace the OEM silencer and the OEM cats with High flow cats

I'm sure option 2 would sound great, but maybe too loud for me.

Would changing only the silencer (option 1) make much of a difference in sound quality and volume?

I am thinking that option 3 might be a good compromise, but I'd like to hear a Speciale with this setup.

Which exhaust components are you replacing?

Thank you for any information you can give me. I'm struggling to make a decision :)

    Hi Robert,

Please let me know what you learn. From your current experience with your Fi configuration what would you think it would sound like if I only replaced my silencer with the new Fi silencer? Or maybe a compromise and replace the cats with high flow cats (not straight pipes) and also the Fi silencer?

BTW, I spoke to Rudy at R3 (very nice guy and helpful). He's going to lower and align my Speciale when I get back to California in November. Thank you for putting me in touch with him.

I have been speaking to FI. the key difference is the ultimate race version has a higher pitch at redline as well as a more aggressive mid range sound. Also more flames. All their kits have a remote so you can close the flaps if its too loud.

As for me….I need that high pitch sound….love the way the V8 sounds when it hits that peak noise…very old school F1.

    Hope that helps.

Hi. Thank you for your insights. Do you know if your new Fi exhaust has removed the OEM cats and replaced them with straight pipes?

I'm having a hard time believing the race version will be higher pitched than my current setup. It sounds insane!!

Maybe the way to do it is to graduate. Start off with the silencer only. If that satisfies you then your golden. If not add the high flows or straight pipes. Nothing lost going that route.

If I decide to go with the race version.. I'll sell you my evolution for half price and R3 can install when you come out 😀

I exchanged some emails with the guys at Fi last night, and they recommended the same approach as you :) I also asked them to explain the difference between their Evolution exhaust and their Ultimate Race exhaust. I'll let you know what they say.

BTW, Fi offers two optional cats (a Sport cat with 200 cells and a race day with 100 cells). Do you (or anybody) know how many cells Ferrari's OEM cats have?

I won't make any decisions until I see you in November. I want to hear your Speciale in person :)

Don't get the 100 cell cats, that's just for the track & they don't last long, 200 cells are better
    for permanent use

What's the latest on the warrantee in the U.S. if you replace just the exhaust - from the cats back?

This is always a mystery. It seems to boil down to individual Ferrari dealers and move even your relationship with your dealer. One fchatter told me yesterday that his dealer is going to install a Capristo exhaust (he didn't give any more details) and it would not void his warranty. My best guess is only replacing the silencer portion of the exhaust (from cats back) probably is okay (but check with your dealer to confirm). I'm guessing changing cats or headers would more likely void the Ferrari factory warranty. But maybe some dealers are more "cooperative". It's definitely worth discussing with your dealer. That's what I'm going to do.

    Any news on your Speciale?

FWIW I Was told by our local dealer that replacement of the exhaust system (even cat back) would void the warranty. I got a totally different answer from another dealer in San Diego. Both said that capristo remote kit was acceptable to ferrari (keeping valves open with remote control) BUT that they had been instructed by ferrari not to do that modification at the dealership relatively recently.

For EU and USA customers it is illegal for the dealer in question to even suggest that a sports exhaust will blanket invalidate a warranty. You are all covered by Block Exemption Law and the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act respectively. If your dealer tells you otherwise, it is not because one dealer has different rules to another - they are illegally misinforming you (albeit usually through ignorance rather than malice).

In my experience, if you bring the law to their attention, they will permit you to equip your desired exhaust and keep your warranty - legally they have to.

Although I don't know the legal stance for all territories outside these zones, I would suggest if a legal battle ensued the dealer would have to prove that the product in question caused the fault in the car - which, if you are using a reputable brand, will never happen.

Hi dear friends of the forum :)

Can any one comment on whats the exhaust that resembles the most the F1 high pitch exhaust sound for the Ferrari 458 Speciale?

The Novitec, iPE or Fi? Or some other that I dont know of?

One thing is listening to videos on you tube other to actually hear it live. So for those who have lets try to reach a consensus here :D

    Thanks for the input

Problem with the videos is that they can't come close to capturing the very loud sound properly. Especially if this done with a phone! Then most people play the video through an IPad or a computer with weak speakers... So never is a true sound represented.

I've done my fair share of real world auditioning and went with the Fi. It's the highest pitch I've found. In addition I heard they came out with a more extreme version.

Regardless of the system you chose, I think you will be very happy with the sound over the stock, underwhelming system.
