Speciale or spider for holding value?

    With production of NA v8s pretty much over and all focus on 488.. we now have the last of the NA v8s. Have seen the speciale aperta going for crazy premiums already, though admitted its a very limited version which helps it's cause.

    Question is, if all focus is now turbo and surely no matter how good a job Ferrari might have done with the turbos, NAs surely should hold some ground in future, what's the best bet to have purely from a holding value perspective say in 4-5 yrs time...

    A regular 458 spider or a speciale?

    More specific to my scenario, I have a 458 spider 2014, about 18 months old 15k km... And have opportunity to take a brand new speciale with excellent spec 2015 0km now.. Both cars have similar msrp on paper, but off course I have to pay for the old vs new .. At what differential is it worth it and is it worth it at all?

    I plan to keep either of the car for a long while to come as have lost all interest in 488 since I believe it would be too similar in experience to the 650s I already have.

    If you can acquire the Aperta, that will hold a little more value.

    Look at the F430 Scuderia and 16M prices. That should give you an idea.

    Scuderia's lost value. Even at today's prices they are still 1/3 less vs when new. I believe 16M prices are 25% (or less) now vs new.

    Many believe the Speciale will follow the same trend once the 488 deliveries start in larger numbers. It certainly IS possible that the Speciale will break the trend and appreciate like 997 GT3 RSs have.

    As a road car the Speciale is reported to not be a massive improvement over your 458.

    If you love you Spider, keep it.

    Spider prices are dropping daily now.

    Speciale's will stay up for a while. To be honest, the 16M never really fell at all.

    Are you sure about 16m prices. Low mileage examples are bringing around 350k.

    Not to be too cynical here but if you already have a 650S and a 2014 458 spider, does retention of value REALLY matter that much to you? The driving experience between your spider and the speciale will be a little different, and it is possible that years down the road the speciale will appreciate a good bit although this is by no means a certainty.

    IMHO most guys (myself included) will obsess about these values not because of the actual marginal utility of the $$ in our lives but more for satisfying our ego that we "made a really wise purchase decision."

    I've tried to reprogram myself into appreciating the fact that being able to afford the depreciation of something I love and enjoy isn't such a horrible thing…. and try to listen more to my heart in these decisions. That said…the speciale is…. well speciale!

    That's my impression. Something between 275 and 350. I really don't remember a time when they fell significantly even though the Scud did. In fact, at times the difference was like 80-100K.

    If any of the two, the Speciale. The Spider is produced in huge numbers. I don't think the Spider and Italia will become classics for many years, and when they do - if they do, the value will be dependent of what has happened in the mean time and how many survived.
