I have been watching Wheeler Dealer for a while now, and it seems he is very knowledgeable and handy. Is he really as knowledgeable and talented as shown, or is he a TV creation?

If you look at the very first shows 10 years ago, he's an honest mechanic. He knows what he's doing.

Now, does he have technical help on the show? Sure. But he's a real mechanic by trade.

definitely one of the real deal mechanics on tv as opposed to the plethora of "mechanics" or "garage owners" on the uncountable number of reality shows.....

    Paul, ah ah ah!

He used to make mistakes in the first episodes but now he's as good as anyone. He also builds stuff for top gear as the double decker cars, the lotus submarine and more. I would have loved if him and Brewer were to replace Clarkson and co.

Did you know, especially in the first few series most of the final sales were staged and the cars magically appeared for sale on Paul's ebay account? Not like he would have told anyone. Can he actually speak? He could have made a pretty good stig. ;)

I love the show. Fun to see how different cars are engineered. Porsche has some really clever engineering.

I suspect they have another model of the car he is working on to get the bugs out and/or he consults with an expert on the car. Of course they could edit the mistake, redo it and make it look ok. What matter. They show how to do it right.

I notice they never account for Edd and Mikes time when they calculate the "profit" . Many would be a loss.

That's the one thing that really bugs me about it TBH. Edd works for free?

Kind of negates the whole premise IMO.

That, and like all these types of programs, they're operating out of a "million $" shop. *Very* nice if you've got it!

    Cheers,
    Ian

I like them, but agree the show is a work. Still, it's pretty clear Edd knows what he's doing...I'm sure he has help, but I view it like watching a cooking show...

Velocity should give Roger the mechanic on Chasing Classic cars his own show. That would be a sure hit!

Couldn't agree more. His commentary is one of my favorite parts of the show.

Roger is one cool dude, he actually bonds with cars and car parts. I thought he was going to start kissing those 4 cam parts on the old Porsche they put back together.
He was like a little kid opening presents on Christmas going theough the boxes.

Yes..and when they have a car they barely break even on, if you included Ed's time..a total wash..
They seem to make money in a select market of cars though, the ones they brought over from the US they did fairly well, Ed seems pretty talented and walks you through the process...
With Roger..Wayne doesnt seem to want to give Roger any more time then he has.. and actually seems a little put off at times by Roger...I wonder what their realationship is in real life...
