Got inspired by Ferrari's offer to upgrade my 355 radio with a newer, better system.

However, I was kind of disappointed with the fact that they didn't really give it much thought and their unit was nothing more than a standard marked up 250% Clarion flip up radio with a Ferrari logo in the corner and a Ferrari wallpaper as a background.

I considered it but at 1500$+installation for the radio and rear camera, there had to be a better way.

I ended up finding a great 39$ camera on Amazon and a great all-in-one Radio/Dvd/gps unit on Sonic Electronix (no affiliation) for less than 300$.

fishing the camera wire took some time, effort and creativity because I wanted a hard-wired camera (too many issues with the fm or bluetooth models).

Installing the unit was pretty simple (had to fish a microphone on the steering column cover and the gps antenna on the rear view mirror but it all went pretty well.

Only drawback is the screen brightness is not great but, other than that I have only positive things to say about this upgrade.

I got some stencil decals on eBay to make it sort-of OEM and put a nice silver horse and Ferrari emblem on there. I also loaded a nice Ferrari wallpaper and it looks perfect!

I love that the unit flips down and doesn't block the gauges.

Very cool. A reverse camera is a great addition.

Fab can you take a pic of it retracted in the dash?

Actually, it does not retract, it flips up to allow access to the cd/dvd slot then flips back down. the screen part actually comes off like a detachable face plate and comes with a carry pouch.

I installed the Clarion deck, since it's same as factory unit, with nice little hard wired back up camera, very discreet. As far as the GPS antenna, you don't need wiring all over the place for a signal. Mine went straight up and is stuck under the dash cover, gets a detect signal through the top dash material.
As far as price, I only paid $750 total. Prices have dropped recently, and love the performance!
Each to his own, I listen to the car more then stereo, unless on a long road trip.
I like the idea of the stencil decals, will look into it as well.
