    Gents,

Was doing a routine oil and filter change on a friend's 360, followed the same procedure as always; drop both drain plugs and let it drain overnight, replace filter and refill with 8 quarts to start with. What's weird here is that I can only get 7 quarts in the oil tank before the damn thing is almost full to the brim! Now I've done a few 360s over the years and never experienced this. They always take the initial fill of 8 and I then add gradually as the engine warms, so I'm a bit baffled (pun intended) here ;)

I dropped both plugs and drained everything again but with the same refill result. Note; I didn't pull the screen on the side of the gearbox casing as he didn't get a new one and I know they have a propensity to break if they've never been out.

Anyone else experienced this? I don't want to start the car until I've figured out what the heck is going on. I don't know if there is a screen/strainer at the bottom of the oil tank although I figure if there was, it wouldn't take much oil at all. So, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Wondering if I disable the ignition/fuel and crank the engine over maybe I just need to purge the oil system of an air lock??

Start the car and watch the oil pressure gauge. Keep your hand over the key just in case. You should be fine.

If you filled it to the brim, you better clean the MAF as it surely ran into the air intake. Ask me how I know.

You might want to click it into gear and push the car (make sure the engine can spin over) to make sure the cylinders didn't fill with oil.

I haven't started it yet and it didn't quite get up to the brim where the holes for the vacuum vent lines are so maybe I should clarify its 3/4 way up the neck of the oil tank. I looked in the owners handbook to find the fuel pump relays so I may pull them and crank it over to see if I can 'prime' the pump...

If i understood right, I made the same mistake the first time i changed oil on the 360. As soon as the tank is filled, about 7 quarts or so, you need to turn the engine ON for 10 seconds to allow the oil to flow away from the tank. Don't worry no damage will happen. That's it ! Unfortunately now you have to clean up the mess ! And that's what I did !

Is this typical, or part of the oil change procedure on the 360? I've done my 430 twice now and put 11quarts without issue, so just curious.

11 quarts? That's a bit much. What is capacity on 430

Please expand. "turn the engine ON" as in you started it?

    Please and thanks.

Is it just me or has anyone noticed how difficult it is to read the damn dipstick accurately? I had the same problem with my C5 Corvette. Yet, I NEVER had any trouble reading the one in my Honda Prelude. Why can't Ferrari learn from Honda (and maybe others) how to include an easy to contrast/read dipstick?

You can always do what I did. After an oil change (that you've done personally or is sure of the accuracy of the amount of oil in the engine), take a hacksaw and install clearer markings that are more readable (Max, Min and I put in a mid mark).

Did you check the amount that came originally? I have done my 360 twice and never had to turn over the car to get the oil in there. Doesn't seem like a whole bunch comes out at the oil sump filter but I would clean it anyway. Mine hasn't broken although I did find a worn out spot on it and needed to replace the filter anyway. I usually note the volumn coming out of any fluid I change and use that as a guide.

    Capacity for the 430 is 10L. 10L = 10.5 quarts.

I get about 10.25 quarts (9.7L) in mine after a change personally.

Couple of tips which may, or may not be obvious.

Make sure you have the oil cap undone when you go to drain the oil and that the oil has been run up to temperature before the draining. This will ensure you get the most oil out in my experience on all cars.

Just wanted to update the thread; I left the car sit overnight and when I got over there today the oil had drained down and I was able to get quart number eight in the oil tank with no issue. Fired the car up and let it warm up gradually and took it for a ride and wound up adding one more quart which got the level spot on. Thanks for all the help gentlemen.
