Countach LP 400 & S1 400s mirrors

Despite several inquiries, I have yet to get a straight up answer on "correct" period side mirrors for the mentioned cars. Period correct pictures most welcome to get this right please...

Hans, this is not a difficult issue, but bear in mind there are no production absolutes with Lamborghini of the era.

Firstly, it depends on what variant you are speaking of, LP400? LP400S S1? LP400S S2? LP400S S3?

For example, LP400 either had nothing at all, or the small Vitaloni Sebring bullet-shaped mirrors, either single or double.

The LP400S S1 either had the same as the LP400, or the big square 'flag' mirrors on the later cars, either single or double.

The LP400S S2 all appear to have the flag mirrors, either single or double.

The LP400S S3 all appear to have the later Sebring units with the rubber boots at the base, always double.

Since the OP is only asking about LP400 & LP400S S1, the two images below cover it.

LP400 sometimes came with no mirrors and some exist thus to this day.

LP400S S1 came with firstly the 'bullet' style Vitalonis on the earlier cars and secondly the 'flag' style units on the later cars as below, single or double mirrors.

I think a lot of this was influenced by local Transportation Authority mandates in the domain where the specific car was delivered.

Not a difficult issue? As you stated, there are no absolutes. Thus making the correct choice interesting for my next completed Lambo concourse project.

I believe the 2 photos posted do not include ALL mirror variants as stated.

I will rephrase my question.....

Instead of relying on a ton of photos, is there DOCUMENTED proof of correct mirrors for Countach '74 - '80? Pictures appreciated.

 

Shall we say this is original ? Period correct Vitaloni's as also fitted to 308's during the 70's.

Lets keep in mind the bearded gentleman in the photo has made his opinions very clear concerning this car......

Fitted to S1 # 042, most defintaely not correct, same as my '86 Jalpa.

interesting topyc
from period pics, i noticed this:

lp400:
- bullet type vitaloni (with or without the "foot")
- no mirrors

lp400s1:
- bullet type vitaloni with or without the "foot", some cars with 1 and some with 2 mirrors
- flag vitaloni with the foot, some cars with 1 and some with 2

in my opinion the california mirrors (308 GTB carbed tipical mirror) was used on P300 silhouette only in period and not lp400 and s1

the later mirrors (the turbo vitaloni) were put from late 400s ( i think S3 ....but may be also on few S2....but VERY few in any case) to anniversary (generally body colour painted)
not on LP400 or S1 when new....if you see an lp400 or S1 with the later turbo mirror 99% they are not correct and it had been changed in course of its life

i noticed from period pics that some lp400 S3 had the flag mirrors still even if most have the later turbo vitaloni (the 5000s-QV and Jalpa mirrors to be clear)

an other interesting topic is the flat black mirrors Vs the body matching colour mirrors

P.S. i investigated a lot on the matter and have a bunch of period pics to support this BUT this is not the end world since a new period picture could prove something different
P.P.S. with lamborghini there is often 1 OR 2 exceptionS to most rules....

to find what was on this car you need period pics of THIS very car....otherwise; when not possible; you can choose the bullet vitaloni or flag vitaloni, one or pair according to owner'S personal taste

imo on a red car one bullet mirror only in flat black looks PERFECT

Correct.
Vitaloni Tornado. There is manual tornado and electric tornado, I don't know which one installed in the Countach.

 

There's a tornado and a baby tornado, is there any difference?

and that type was NOT originally fitted to S1 or S2

Period correct, #1120002 was not fitted with any mirrors....

 

Period correct bullets and flags on the late production LP400S1, are not always numerically in-order as the cars came off the line. In other words, during late 1979 production, a definitive beginning and ending production # for the mirrors does not exist.
