Factory Upgrade 512TR/M clutch housing build

I managed to source an upgrade TR/M New Clutch Housing along with all the components for a new build. I wanted to document the build to inform of this upgrades and also for some guidance. This was a bit of a tedious process without service bulletins because all the changes would have been listed. (If anyone has bulletins I think that would be great to add to this thread.) So far learned that the only parts that were updated are:

Clutch Controls:

**Every single component aside for the above is the exact same for early TR and M.

All bearings, clutch shaft pressed and gears put in place. This is where I'm at now.
What color locktite should I use on the ringnuts and what is the significance of the lines around the top of all gears.

for this I always use red loctite, but I think blue will do it also

check the axial play for the center gear. may be you have to use shims for right adjustment?

 

Thanks, was thinking red for the ringnut and blue for the flange threads. I have seen 3 of these apart and never seen shims from the factory. Also can't find any info in the workshop manual on installation of this.

right, original there are no shuims inside, but I once measured the axial play and it was 3/10 mm, so I put 1 shim with 0,2 mm ( you have to take the bearing out of the housing ) that the play was only 0,1 mm

 

I have no intentions of installing it in my 92. I have a bit of an obsession with the enchantments Ferrari made in their three year run with the car. I have been collecting all upgrades from 92 through 94. Even small upgrades like the fusebox bracket to headlight motor covers. So I guess it’s more of a collecting itch.

 

Ready for the Flange install but I'm stumped on this.........

What is minimum play that is allowed? I'll check and report back.

 

I would say between 0,05 and 0.15 mm. the WSM says nothing

 

I presume they have to be cut. What is the purpose for the holes on top in the first place?

 

So basically the threaded rods you see on the flange are simply tightened, cut and then shaved down flat. Simple enough. Does anyone know why they made these holes on the flange if they have to be plugged? I understand why they have to be plugged but why did they make the holes on the flange to begin with?

Oil recovery pipe pressed on. Make sure opening is facing up toward the fill hole. This will slip into the clutch shaft when the cover is put on.Clutch Flange installed next.

where do you have this pictrue from?

this is a return line for the oil from the primary gearbox ( so from the clutch down to the gearbox ) . have not seen this before but will make only sense when you have the oilpresuure line connected to the primary gearbox cover somewhere at the top. this I have on my competition, but the return line in my eyes makes no real sense, because the oil can passes through the original holes inside the gearbox.
if there would be no fresh oil coming to the primary gearbox this return line makes absolutely no sense because all of the oil will drain down.

 

355 f1's use those holes and they're blocked off in a similar manner in non f1 cars, so could be ferrari had planned to put the f1 system in the m but it never happened. I know they put an f1 system in one of the sultan of Brunei's 512m based cars (FX)...

 

Anybody know were a oil leakage came from in this area?

On the pic the oil is bad to see but there is a lot!

this looks like the buttom plug?
there sometimes oil is draining between the housing and the cover, sometimes the plug is tightened too much so the thread has malfunction or even the cover at the thread is broken
unplug, clean and put the plug with a copper seal and rtv/silicone in again and wait 1 day before filling in oil

I agree with you Romano; it is on a 94 512TR ... made the photo myself because it looked so stupid ... (#2 was near by, not really relevant)

Maybe we can find out if there are more 1994 512TR cars with this modification ??

may be inside there is a riser? so like newer gearboxes have it. that would make sense, because then the oil level is always the same. but when there is no riser ( hope this is the right name?? ) then it makes no sense

 

Flange plugs are installed and shaved,flange seal pressed. Two small O-rings and large bearing O-ring placed on and clutch flange installed. Springs, pin guide and Throw out bearing installed. Next,it will be flipped over and the gears will be installed

Hello Joseph,

I am posting the link below for all to see as there seems to be some critical problems with certain new 154511 Flanges that are in circulation in the parts world. (I should mention very early on that these are not Hill Engineering parts!)
