    OK.... so for me:

It has taken me some time to warm to this car but in the end, I think I have. There are downsides and upsides.

Is it better than the 458? Perhaps. I'm thinking now "just a little". We will miss it's awesome N/A engine and the noise it makes at 9 grand. And, the look of the perfectly laid out jewel of an engine under the glass is now blocked with wires, plastic covers, and hoses. A pity but the 458 will never lose its beauty this as long as one exists.

But we can now get a car that is more responsive and faster. It has better fuel economy (let's face it -- the 458 is pretty bad in this department) and it seems fewer emissions will come from it (not a bad thing even for a supercar). It handles better and brakes better. These are all very good things.

We lose the sound --- but the new sound isn't bad. It's enjoyable but "different". Different always takes some time to get used to. I personally missed the F430's "slam - bang!" gearbox noises over the 458's rather tame DCT.

But one thing more than any other may have changed my mind. It's the image below. This is the decision maker for me at the moment. For the first time I can see this is one beautiful car. I have to see it in person but I think it has potential to be -- dare I say -- as good looking or maybe even a little better looking than the 458.

It should be, and that's been my point. Now I think it has potential.

I wished there was a clear, exact YES on every positive of the 488. I think you could say that for the most part of the 360 to F430. Sure some didn't like the nose but everything else in the car was a huge plus over the earlier car. With the 488 it's tougher to qualify what is "better" than the 458.

I'm torn over this issue. It seems still to me Ferrari is asking us to except less on many issues except performance. I'm not sure that's enough yet.

    Do I want one? I think so -- and I didn't a month ago. I suppose that's progress. :)

Given they way that, for me, personally, Ferrari's current 'design language' translates from photograph to real thing, I think I'm going to really like the 488 in the flesh. Even though, in the flesh, I think the 458 is, possibly, the best looking Ferrari ever, I still think it really awkward in photographs, with only a few exceptions. So, given that I think the 488 is starting to approach acceptable in photographs, that bodes well.

I forgot to post these last week. This is from the private viewing. Pictured is the car I drive a while back in my thread.

Given my disparaging comment in the other thread, the rear deck looks a lot nicer from ^this angle.

ferrari claims the same lateral and torsional rigidity as the coupe. this would be interesting if verified.

From the shape of the deck it looks like there's a glass cover coming... at a cost. And this is what you'll see for all that money...

The 488 coupe is known as the GTB, but this is a Spider and not GTS? Wellwell...

A few days ago I had a black 488 GTB in front of me; this car looks very impressive embedded in the public traffic, very noticeable. I like it! I think you will too.
