Driver interviews started getting scripted after Denny Hamlin was fined for comments at Phoenix a few years ago. Drivers don't want those fines, so they coach themselves. No point in watching any interviews.
NASCAR, that fine American institution where free speech is squelched, innovation is frowned upon and stepping out of line invokes fining, sanctioning, points penalties and suspension. Come to think of it, it's quintessentially American! Whoo hooo NASCAR, I'm in! BHW
NASCAR is on a cost saving mission. Next years they will eliminate drivers and race Google cars. Probably be more exciting. I used to be an avid NASCAR fan from back in the day when they showed segments of the races on ABCs Wide World of Spots. When it used to be who ever cheated best won. Today it is a microcosm of everything else in the USA, including the government. Everyone has to be politically correct and all must answer to the contributors, I mean lobbyists, oops, I mean sponsors.
You'd think that fans of Indy (the 500 and 400) would have by now settled that the 500 is by far the more spectacular event. Once you see speeds of 230+MPH (even with those fugly cars), seeing those 4,300lb bricks going roundy-round can't be all that exciting. BHW
That's like saying magnetic grip slot car racing must be the most entertaining of all. I'd rather watch cars that can move around a little without flying off. I have a hard time watching the Indy 500 after the repave. Car's are glued on a high grip asphalt laser etched without bumps. A NASCAR race on the old surface of Louden is far far far more exciting to me. Then there is the sound. Indy cars sound like vacuum cleaners compared to a NASCAR. (In person comparison, not just relying on TV mics)
the old Loudon surface/configuration (before the "progressive banking" was added) was in my opinion THE best track for watching car control. you could really watch the drivers sawing at the wheel all the way through the corner. sadly, it wasn't good enough of a "show" (i.e. two/three wide, passing, beating and banging) so they screwed it up. oh well. likewise, Brickyard has never been a particularly good race but if you pay attention you can see some amazing car control hustling those tanks through the corners.
Agree. Nothing beats the sound of a V-8 Cossie. Same for the roar of a 4 cylinder Offy. Now....its has a wimpy sound to them.

Holy frack, if only he could that in the chase. @_@ The rules are designed to not have one shot wonders in the chase, he's fortunate there is even a chase system like it is that still gives him a chance to win the overall championship despite a broken leg. He has six races to make up a 20 point gap on 30th. The driver in 30th scored 7 points in the last race.
agreed. nascar made the rules and a win is supposed to secure a spot in their joke of a playoff system. but...they would rather see someone else make the 16th spot despite kyle kicking azz and taking names. conversations among those in the fake wood panel office have been revolving around making the rules up as they go
If NASCAR wanted to interfere here, they wouldn't of granted Kyle medical absence chase eligibility for the chase. Kyle is 20 points out, with a few races to go still. He just has to beat the 30th place in points by 4-5 positions each race to be in the chase.
So, this whole "Win and You're In" NASCAR has been blovating about since who knows when (?) is nothing more than a bunch of typical nonsense emanating from the fake wood paneled walls at Daytonner then? I don't get it. The only thing that mattered at the beginning of the season was winning races. Points don't matter since at the end "regular" season, the points are reset to zero anyway so those who've won race face off in the revamped "Chase". Along comes Busch who wins three in a row (or whatever) and they're saying he's not eligible for the "Chase"? And their reasoning is what exactly? It would be interesting to be in on the conversation between Busch's sponsors and NASCAR when they're told they're barred from the "Chase" due to a technicality. But, they let Jeff Gordon in a couple of years ago because they "felt sorry" for him after another NASCAR cock up. They've convoluted this joke of a series so far down now that it hardly matters any more. BHW
