Question for UK RHD 1977 cars My car ( UK supplied RHD 1977 3.0 L turbo ) has Porsche sport seats. I just received my COA and in the optional equipment it mentions: Impact Absorbers, Air Conditioning, Sun Roof , Blaupunkt Bamberg According to the previous owner of my car the seats are original. ( In the COA it mentions cork leather, the color that is also now in my car ) Is it possible that the 1977 UK RHD cars had standard sport seats ? and not mentioned in the Optional equipment ? Regards
The COA's are notorious for being incorrect, as far I know there were no turbo's built with standard sport seats. Out the 7 I've owned (all US spec LHD) only 1 came with the optional sport seats and they are listed under optional equipment on COA. Phil
Thanks for the reply. I know that UK 1977 had few more standard equipment than the LHD cars but I wonder if the sports seats were one of them ! But if COA can have mistakes ! then everything is possible !
I have a copy of the UK brochure and price list for '76 model year. It is very clear that it was a cost option to have Sports Seats on the Turbo, not standard (though if you ordered a Carrera 3.0 with Sport package, they did come as standard). I also have a CoA for a '75, which does have sports seats, and they are listed as an option on the CoA. So that is consistent. Unless there was a change for '77 either your CoA is wrong or the seats were added. Could easily have happened at the dealership. You might contact the registry keepers at Porche Club GB. They are generally very helpful on RHD cars and seem to have access to Kardex or factory records and can usually tell you exactly how the car left the line.
Here's the 76 Option List for the UK. Hope you can read the poor quality photo! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have the 1976 UK price list as well but not the 1977 UK price list. The 1978 UK price list indicates that Turbos had sport seats included as standard fitment so it's possible that 1977 models had them as well. COAs are usually spot-on for 1970s Turbos.

The Platinum '76 is now at Marshall Goldman 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Warrensville Heights, Ohio | Marshall Goldman Motor Sales
I think same car was for sale at another dealer in OH for $245k, which seemed cheap to me. Any know what Marshall Goldman is asking? Phil
It's intersting that it appears to have mic in same place as a 76 instead of installed in console like my 77. Does anyone know when the mics were moved to console, I have a late VIN 77. Also car is missign thermal reactors - I wonder if it passed cali SMOG w/o thermal reactors. Phil
I can confirm that this is same 77 that was listed on ebay recently by earth motorcars when it was black- auction pulled once COA confirmed that it was originally white. Sure got it repainted quickly. Phil
You would at least think they could get the colour term correct, assuming it's the same car with the 944-9-3 paint tag on the door pillar its Platinum Diamond, not Platinum.
Different titles for different markets. Much like viper green or emerald green. I believe it's platinum metallic for the U.S. Market. Great color combo. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The June 1983 Panorama included a short article on a silver “Ghost Turbo” that was first seen on the road after the Six Hours of Makes at Watkins in July 1975. Here are a few passages from the article… “Stories of this Swabian silver Carrera first surfaced just after the Six Hours of Makes at Watkins Glen that year. Three race fans returning to Boston from the Glen stopped to assist a man with just such a car. They picked him up and he explained his problem. An electrical malady, easily remedied by a short jumper wire around the boost sensor. But they inquired as to his destination, glanced away and he was gone, the car in which they were traveling having never slowed from 70 mph cruise speed.” “On September 1978, a New York state trooper sighted a fast-moving silver car from an entrance ramp near the section approaching the Massachusetts Pike entrance. He strained his 440 Chrysler Hemi with the two-speed rear axle to its limit of 140 mph and closed the gap just before the border. The Turbo crested a rise. It was dusk. The officer spent the following 45 minutes trying to convince the toll booth attendant that the speeding Turbo must have come through. There were no other exits.” “In the spring of 1980, a caravan of PCAers, returning from Lime Rock IMSA races, saw the Turbo. He passed them a well over 100 mph but when they stopped, none of them could agree on where or when. These cars, traveling 300 feet apart at 80 mph, had all been passed by a specter of a sliver 930 at a different place and time.” “If you see the Ghost Turbo, wave and blink your lights, but don’t give chase. He may take you to a place from which only shadows return.” Image Unavailable, Please Login
