I wouldn't bother too much with trolls, Ferrari doesn't have much history, as you know, of ever naming its cars with their internal development titles.
If I were you I wouldn't go anywhere near a casino today... Given the constantly changing and more comprehensive names Ferrari gives to it's Special Edition (in Italian; Versione Speciale !!) cars, whether it's the 550 Barchetta, 575 Superamerica, , 599 SA Aperta, 599 GTO, 348 Gt Competizione, 360 Challenge Stradale, F430 Scuderia, 16M, 458 Speciale or others in the past, you can quite safely say that just on the basis of that knowledge that the name "Versione Speciale" after the 458 Speciale is out of the question. But hey, I'm just guessing.
Any chance you could enlighten us as to what it is about the F12 you don't like and why this new version 'blows your dress up' (English expression for excites you)? Would be really interesting to hear from someone with your experience, especially as you have seen the new car.
I always found the design of the F12 troublesome, unbalanced. Especially when compared to the grace of a 599. To me it was / is a mix of too many elements. The new car has an amazing front and the change in the rear of the car gives it an overall balance (albeit a very aggressive one) that defines its character. Technically it is also very interesting - although I have been asked not to divulge any details!! Let's put it this way, it has the aggressiveness of a 550 Prodrive. Muscular, purposeful. A shark waiting to bite....
Peter... I think you just gave it all away. I'm seeing it next week, will be sure to be careful around the teeth Hope to see you (and perhaps some of your car(s)?) soon, perhaps Mugello? regards//
I find all this fascinating. Thank you all. I'm not sure I would say the car has the same chassis. It seems to me they've done a lot of enhancements. I can't wait to learn more.
Enhancements do not a new chassis make. For this edition I'm willing to wager it shares thousands of components with the F12 including the primary chassis. As I recall back in December, dealerships were fishing to see if there would be any interest in an F12 'GTO' before the F12M came out in MY17 (as I also recall, the answer was also a resounding no from many who are now jazzed!). Just not enough time to spin up a new platform and skin it like the F12. Can't wait to learn the details of what they put together. -best
That would be a horrible business decision to make up a new chassis. The 599 GTO still had the same chassis as the GTB.
Untrue. The 599 GTO chassis comes directly from the 599XX race version and has absolutely nothing in common with a GTB.
Didn't know that. So what does that mean? The wheel base is different? Floor plan? Axle locations? Length and width of the car is different? It's roofline is closer to the ground? I get the suspension is different but the actual body I thought was the same as the gtb.
It has everything to do in common with the 599 chassis. Much else may be different (anti roll bars, wheels, suspension etc etc) but the chassis is from the 599 otherwise it wouldn't have been a 599XX, it would have had a different nomenclature.
I'm not sure exactly where you want to draw the line but even the exhaust system underneath the GTO is totally incompatible with a GTB because of the size difference in the 2 cars. The frame of the GTO is shorter in the rear and wider in the front than the GTB by at least 1 to 2 inches. In my mind that makes the GTO a completely different animal.
Exactly right. Ferrari is the king of blurring the lines. The chassis in the F12 VS appears to be a highly modified take on what you get with the F12. Seems to me we have the same frame but the suspension now features 4WS. That will necessarily affect all kinds of things.
