488 GTB (458 replacement)

I just think 4% decrease in CO2 is puny even with a 100 hp increase. Reduction of hp or electric motors may be the next step. And those Teslas really sound great. Lol

If the 488 gets a 15% reductiin in fuel consumption, why only a 4% reduction in CO2? Seems like if you are consuming 15% less hydrocarbons, why not a 15% reduction in CO2?

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a treehugger - far from it. I don't consider the car problematic in any way, when it comes to CO2 or other emissions. And when it comes to cars like these, I think it all hangs on political correctness and jealousy. They are so few and driven so little compared to anything else on the road - but still they are considered the culprits.

HP could very well go down if they decrease weight. On the other hand, since people like to brag, it will be an interesting marketing exercise. I bet you a very good percentage of 458 drivers have no idea what the car weighs, but they all know how much horsepower it has - as an example.

But I'm all for decreased weight, as power/weight is the key figure.

The 488 has roughly the same HP as a F1 car, but it weights a little more than 2x as much.

 

The combustion is more efficient.
That means from a unit fuel you can win more energy. Or the other way around for a unit of energy you need less fuel.

I don't think this is a repost, but the Car and Driver reviewer didn't seem all that impressed. He concludes that the 488 seems to be a car designed more around the stats than the driving experience.

I have my 458 up for sale at the dealer and an early allocation for a 488. I just wonder if I am making a mistake. I hope not.

 

If you don't like the 488 you can always trade it for something else. And if history holds if you sell early with few miles you can make money...but trade with the dealer if you ever want to buy a new Fcar from a dealer again in the US.

You're making the financial smart move. The relevant question is how much do you value the emotional side of the equation. Only you can answer that question.

Going turbo was the only way so it is what it is.

It's occasional driver (I have other cars). I just use it normally. No track.

 

Then 488 will be step up for you over 458

Its more comfortable and quieter so sig other wont mind going to dinner with it. Its new so c&c crowd will oogle it. Its got more torque so can accel on street from low rpm without needing launch it. It can be driven daily without issue

458 has the wailing screech of 9k rpm and a super responsive throtle. Hard to take advantage of this on the street. Imo would need to track 458 5-10 time/yr to take advantage of these features.

Then there is style which is of course subjective. Front view to 488, side to 458, rear toss up for ke

 

not sure I agree. The 9k, fast revs, sound, and instant throttle is what keeps things interesting on the street without having to do jail time speeds. Extra torque would be nice, but I can always flick the left paddle for that.

Front shot is awesome. I thought those supports we straight up and down...but actually they are angled which looks much better.

Continues to look amazing in yellow.

 

Yes 488 over 458 from front. catfish wiskers on 458 never my fav.

But that view of 488 looks a lot like a vette. Wish i had comparison foto to post

 

To me, the 458 front end, particularly the headlights (similar to the early Gallardo) and the grille opening always brought to mind a Lamborghini. As I look at the front end shot of the 488, I think that Ferrari has doubled down on the Lambo look. It's not unattractive, but it doesn't say "Ferrari" to me. Every previous Ferrari mid-engine model carried Ferrari (or perhaps PF) DNA, and unfortunately that now seems to be gone forever. Since Pininfarina no longer designs Ferraris, a new design language from the FIAT Centro Stile will replace it. Fred

 

The 458 front end was a product of Pininfarina Design.
Fiat Design has no control over Ferrari design. Ferrari has their own design studio run by Flávio Manzoni.

 

I agree it is Lambo-esque. Not a bad thing. Only seen one Lambo here 1x and doubt if anyone would confuse it for a 458. The Lambos look so darn BIG.

THIS THE FIRST lambo i have seen on the road here since i got my 2012 spider.
