Have to agree. If they were just making conversation, they'd say something along the lines of "Your car is very nice", then shut up, and wait for person to return compliment, say thanks, etc. But, then perhaps social media has eroded social skills?!?

I agree, it's envy. I have people say things like "Nice car. It would look better in black." Depending on my mood, I might shoot back "Then you should buy one in black."

The other day, a guy pulls alongside and his passenger yells out something like: "Hey, you left your keys in the door." Anyone have any idea what kind of response that was supposed to evoke?

"Yeeeeaaah baby! Testarossa!" Then you have to think, do I correct him or humor him. I say thanks and say "actually...~baby testarossa V8" and so on. And he echos me "actually..." It wasn't bad. He was kinda drunk and slurring his words in the back of a cab with his bromance buddies. LOL It was pleasant for the most part. :D

Nothing amazing or super irritating, but this happened a few days ago and I thought it was funny:

As I shoot this picture, I see a pair of cyclists approaching and say Sorry in advance (for blocking more than half of the road). Female cyclist in purple passes by, and mutters "to herself" (in a clear passive-aggressive tone meant for me):
    "********. Seriously?!"

Male rider looks back awkwardly but doesn't manage to say anything. This is the innermost section of a dead-end road where there is no vehicular traffic.

So the woman was either annoyed that I blocked some of her road (about 7 cyclists managed to pass without any trouble, mind you), or she expressed admiration for the car in a strange way. No idea which one.

While back I was driving the GTS along a narrow country lane around these parts. Nice sunny day and no rain for a change, so roof panel off and safely stowed.

I came across 2 horses and riders heading in the same direction.

Slowed down and waited for them to go forward to a wider section of the lane just ahead (where usually anyone walking, on a bicycle or horse would tuck in and let you safely pass).

One of the riders decides to complicate the moment and make an issue of allowing me to pass safely. Eventually as I crawl by I hear the woman shout "horses are older than cars don't you know?"

My reply via the open roof panel "Madam, I can assure you this car is older than your horse!"

For some reason she took umbrage at this and by the look on her face I reckon she was gearing up to launch the horse into a charge!

I merrily continued on my way.

When I owned a silver 550 Maranello back in 2002, some girl in Oakland was crossing the street and said "Nice car, never seen a mustang like that before" I responded "It's a Ferrari" and she disappointingly replied "oh, never heard of it" and carried on crossing the street.

You can (safely) drive a Ferrari in Oakland? California?

I once got turned around in Oakland, in a rental. At one intersection, at least 30 people turned and stared (hostile stares) at me and my rental camry. When the light turned green, I was off and didn't stop again until I found the freeway.

Stopped for gas on our way back home from Marble. A UPS guy asked if I'd like to trade for his truck. I could even keep all the packages! Lol

That is an interesting proposition! Should have asked to inspect the packages before accepting the deal.

Last night pulled up beside a limousine. Driver looked at me and says "I have 6 gorgeous women in here, do you want to trade?". I responded "no but I have room for one of them if you need me to take one off your hands".

This one is I think kinda odd. I was sitting in my 308 in a parking lot waiting for a friend to come out. I see this lady hauling butt across the parking lot headed for me. She slides by my car and over to a bulbous car parked next to me. She asks the lady driving, "is this the new Cadillac" ?????? It's the most beautiful car I have ever seen!!!!!

    Its a new Cadillac.

Well it's still the ugliest car I've ever seen. :D

Stuck in Fenway traffic last Saturday night. The Sox were in Detroit AFIAK so what the hell? ... "I love your car [cute smiling blond leans out the window and calls over] And the hat too] Spider with my SF 2015 team cap ;) Guy on the other side of the SUV makes some crack I didn't hear and she continues, "Don't mind him, really it's beautiful car! [gushing and beaming the whole way.] Another pair of drunk guys on the sidewalk yelled, "Rev it! Rev it!" So I gave them 4k-5K rpms in a couple shots. They screamed YEAH and said some things with slurred speech, then "I'll never forget that, yeah I'll remember that forever!"

    :D
