Insurance advice please!

I'm insured with American Collectors (but note for long).

They are giving me major pushback on increasing the insurance on my 1972 246GT from $150k to $325.

They want to know what kind of work I have done to justify the increase, new pics of the car and of the garage.

They want receipts and bills of sale to "justify the requested value".

It can't really be this hard can it?

Yes I ran into the same problem with these folks - switched to Heacock Classic
Collector Car Insurance 2047 Highway 96 Burns, TN 37029.
I think American Modern Home Insurance Company does the administration for them.

No issues with values - they actually track auction results.

+1 on Hagerty. Great service. I wouldn't insure anywhere else. It is super easy to adjust your policy 24x7 just by logging into their website.

 

Infinity is another classic car insurer. I've had absolutely no trouble in increasing the insurance on 5 different classic cars.

Here's another one for Hagerty. I recently upped my coverage significantly. Because it was such a jump they required an appraisal. No problems. Sent a bunch of pics with basic info to the person they recommended. In short order I received an appraisal via email. I forwarded that to Hagerty and the coverage was increased. The only bad thing was they had the audacity to up my premium as well. Damn.

 

I have used CHUBB for over 10 years . They have been excellent and know the value of these cars. I have never had a problem increasing the value of my cars.

 

You might be very pleased with Heacock's premium compared to others.

 

If you or any family member are ex-military then your best option is USAA's connection with AMIG
Collector car insurance from American Modern

USAA's liability insurance on your daiily driver is transferable to the collector car so you don't need to buy it twice and they have agreed value and accident forgiveness.

It was VERY easy to substantially raise my coverage without the scrutiny you're going through.
$350k agreed value cost $1200/year

 

+1 for AMIG. However I think you need to buy the policy through one of their agents. Leyland West does that for me.

 

I'm with AMIG by way of LeLand West as well. $250k coverage for $917/yr (up from $200k) with no issues raising coverage.

 

Who has filed a claim with any of the companies they are recommending?

While having a company that allows me to insure my car for what it is worth is a requirement, I am equally concerned about how they would likely respond if I had to file a claim.

I have a friend in CA. and rear ended someone. Obviously his fault.
Hagerty cut him a check next day.
The car, a 750 Giulietta Spider took over a year to repair. The check was most generous.

I've never had a claim with Hagerty (knock on wood), but I've seen others have various claims and Hagerty is extremely quick to sort things out and make sure their insured are happy. They deeply understand and participate in the classic car market, they have a full time guy who hunts down the correct parts for vintage cars, etc.

 

Called for periodic review and American modern now values 1973 246 GTS from $465k - $525k

Hagerty is no longer an independent, they were recently acquired by Nationwide Ins, Hagerty is still operating independently... Nationwide asked me to shift my collector car ins to the Hagerty division which was better suited to deal with high value collector cars, at which point we also adjusted the car values to be in line with current market values without question... I was told that there will be better integration under the Nationwide umbrella moving forward... I have had good service from Nationwide which should continue with Hagerty

 

In my experience, no one is better than Chubb.

 

I haven't had to file a claim yet (hope I never will), but I've been impressed with Hagerty's ease of use on their website and the low rates. Also enjoy their magazine.

 

we've had Chubb for years.
had water in the basement when living in the Chicago area.
their adjuster came promptly, and wrote a check for more than I needed to get it fixed.

I'm currently upping the value for my 308. They did not balk at the initial amount, but I'm asking for more!

 

Hagerty is one of the more expensive based on my research...which is why I never went with them.

 

I've been with Heacock for 25 yrs with 4 cars and never had a problem increasing coverage as values increased.

Fortunately never had a claim either, so I can't comment..

 

Chubb just let me just about double the agreed upon value of my 308 without a hassle

 

I have used both hagerty and Grundy and found neither one had any issues with increasing my values which I did on occasion However Grundy cost considerable less then Hagerty ..
Hagerty actually sent an inspector to visit my garage and my shop .. to look at storage conditions .....
anyway try Grundy
