Kyle is on a roll, he is like Trump on the racetrack.
He just holds the gas pedal down and one of 3 things happens:
    1. He wrecks
    2. Blows the engine
    3. Wins the race
Amazing he could wreck like that early on, break bones and be so focused today.

I hate the chase period. Historical records prove that attendance has declined every year since its inception. They put so much stock in the chase to try to compete against college and pro football in the fall and it will never work as they have it. I do recall that in 1990's the races were sold out in the fall and there were always 1-3 drivers at the top duking in out. The chase has replaced the races themselves and thus no one cares if JJ wins another championship. He never would have been heard from under the old format.

People change based on the format.Under the chase format, unless a driver is looking outside, the best parts and ideas are shelved until chase time.

Johnson would still be winning titles chase or no chase.

Are there any statistics with regard to the "Chase" and how the championship has been taken
from the hands of the guy who was leading in the points at the end of the regular season
and given over to another driver?

I just don't see the logic in teams wanting to go out race in, race out, knocking their guts
out for points when in the end, the points simply don't matter.

The fertile minds in Daytonner have convoluted this thing so much, even they don't understand it.

What about statistics before the chase, where whoever was leading with 10 races to go, had it taken from it and he didn't win?

The year NASCAR added Jeff Gordan to the chase as a 13th, I'd of thought the chase system worked very well, NASCAR should of let that play out, left it alone.

Robert Kauffmann has bought a stake in Ganassi's nascar team; might merge with MWR (otherwise it sounds like MWR could shut down).

    interesting news...

Seems as though there was an article posted not long ago which went into some detail
about the amount of NASCAR teams which have been forced (more or less) to merge
with other teams in order to stay afloat.

Obviously, it's not all gravy in NASCAR as these "Cars of Tomorrow" (or whatever they're calling
them this year) are pinching the small teams especially in the areas of re-certification and
    arbitrary rules changes.

Arbitary rule changes, different aero packages per track, lack of testing.

Lack of testing simply shifts costs from mechanics and haulers, creating a lot of jobs, to specialized simulation specialists at huge $$$ to just a few people.

I'd much rather see testing, cars on the track, then have it all the simulated work.

During my college days in Daytona, 1988-1989, NASCAR teams tested there constantly.
All this went on during the season and they practically lived there during the off-season.

It was a year round thing, either one or two cars (usually Ken Schrader was there, did the
guy ever sleep?) and other times bigger groups of cars where Ford would run for a few
days and Chevy would come in and run for a few more.

The tracks had to have been happy with the income they made from the year-round
testing schedule. Remembering at one point, it was revealed that Sebring made more
income from the CART testing season than from any other source, including the 12
    Hours.

    Uhoh, why what now?

See they're racin' at Watkins Glen (sorry, there's just no way to redneck up that name)
    this weekend.

I tried (I REALLY tried) to enjoy watching NASCAR on the road courses. But, it's just more
of the same nonsense as they have on the ovals, heavily manipulated to the point of being
absurd, the "ringer" drivers routinely getting the short end of the stick because we certainly
can't have none of them dere part timers (especially the ones with the furrin' soundin' names)
    winnin' our races.

They'll throw a fifteen minute full-course caution for someone simply spinning off the track and
when the pace car comes out, it looks as though they're going 40MPH so "race control"
can monkey around with the running order.

Sorry, but I'm not biting. Looking forward to MotoGP at Indy today, that'll be fun!

Watkins Glen is one of my favorite race tracks (vintage racing). I've been enjoying the Nascar coverage on my DVR.

The two Penske cars were certainly the best of the field yesterday. Both cars were sent to the back and drove through the field to finish first and second.

I'd guess that the track is considered too dangerous for Indy cars. I think that is why F-1 stopped going there.

I believe the new paving will start on Monday. Hopefully, they'll finish before it gets too cold in upstate NY.

I believe the Nascar Infinity series will be at Mid-Ohio in two weeks.
