    Hi Joe,

Oops, I wrote the wrong number, I should know since I sold 1228 in November from Toronto to the San Francisco area:)

I meant 1028 which I saw at the Lexington Concours in summer 2004. Here is one photo of that day and another taken later in Austria.

    Best regards,

I owned that Khamsin in 2011. The previous owner is still a good friend and I plan to see him this weekend in Lexington.

    Hi Ivan,

Yes say hello to Greg, a very nice guy, funnily enough he said at the time (2004) that the only other K he had ever seen was "a gold one in Wisconsin" which is the one I bought that year:)
Here are snapshots from when it was at Motorcar Gallery before that. It had also been in a Mecum auction in Arlington Illinois in June 1998 where it sold for the earth shattering price of US$18500:)

    Hi guys,

Very quiet on the Khamsin-front! I realise that most decent K's are now in Europe and that most owners will be occupying their allocated spaces on sunny beaches.

I believe the upcoming auctions include no less than 5 Ghibli's, but will there be any K's going under the hammer?

    Best,

    Jack.

    Hi Jack and all,

Hope you and all are well.

Yes just got back from holiday and as you know August is the quiestest month with most away.
The only K's I saw this summer were in Vienna last month.
I am not aware of any coming up at auction, the Chantilly Bonhams auction has two other very special Masers with the Boomerang and the Mexico Frua. I haven't gone through the Pebble Beach Monterey catalogues yet but no K has been seen there in auctions there about seven years. Concorso Italiano usually has a couple of them the same cars in recent years, 1170 and 1172.

    All the best,

    Marc

    Hi Jack...

Most decent K's are now in Europe?? I think I will take exception to that! :)
I think mine is pretty decent! :)

How is your engine work coming? Haven't heard anything for a bit!

    Hi Mike,

It's the exception that establishes the rule :)

Of course there are decent and excellent K's in the US, but it has really been one-way traffic between continents over the last years. There can't be much left!

Yes I've been quiet. On one part due to some hurdles to be overcome, small stuff but time consuming, and on another part due to my focus on the K lacking a little at the moment, as I am seriouslylooking at buying a sailing yacht to live on and travel with, and that is a steep learning curve.
It has also been rather cold and wet here, not my fav time to spend in the garage.
It seems like the weather is clearing up, and the planning is to invest some serious time wrenching in the coming weeks.

On that note, since I can't seem to find a pattern, I need to order a complete exhaust from the headers back. Where?

    Best,

    Jack.

Yes AM120328 modified by a German who found it in a middle eastern desert needing lots of work.
    Not a factory sanctioned job.
One of a handful of cars with special bespoke BBS wheels which were available briefly back in the day.
Now owned by the former President of the German Maserati club Reiner S.

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Hi Jack....

I understand completely... My Ghibli SS is taking longer than I ever suspected... Sometimes
it seems overwhelming... Every now and then a break to get some perspective is needed.
So take your time on the Khamsin.. Rushing for the sake of completion isn't good either!

Please post some photos of the sailboat, if your life progresses in that direction... I used to
own a sailboat in the 1980's when I lived in Michigan... Wasn't big enough to live on full time,
but big enough to enjoy the weekends! Sailing can be very relaxing!

Not sure if Bart still reads these posts on Khamsins.. I'm pretty sure he owns a very, very,
    nice looking sailing vessel!

Regarding your exhaust.. I can't be certain, but I think Quicksilver in the UK, may be a place to start...
QuickSilver Exhaust Systems.... I have no experience
with them, so don't know about the quality... Perhaps others with experience will chime in.
I'm sure there are other possibilities as well...

    Mike

    Hi Marc,

"found it in a Middle Eastern desert". Sounds like an interesting history. What's the story about that ?

    Warmest regards,

    Hello all,

AMLC, no while its nose looks very very siimilar to a 375L the man was trying to get the Maserati factory interested by doing the nose in a simialr style to that of...a Quattroporte III. Needless to say Alessandro de Tomaso just shrugged when he got the pictures in the early eighties because he had decided it would be too costly to make a new Khamsin version already.

Jack and Mike, good luck with your restorations and don't forget to DRIVE when done: I know that going out on the road in a car you have just poured your heart and soul into, not mentioning sweat, tears and your wallet can be scary particularly if there are idiots next to you on the highway trying to take photos or wanting to race you in their junkers but we all look forward to see your restoration completion AND driving photos: Jack remember the photos with some wild game you promised me;-) Oh and the Khamsin and boat sound like one too many mistresses;-)

Ramin the car sold new in Saudi Arabia in 1979, it was owned by a wealthy man who left it in the Saudi desert after it broke down and since his money supply was vastly greater than his patience he abandoned it there, and sometime later a German tourist, Werner Goetten, saw the car made inquiries, located the owner who sold it to him cheap, said German took it home sorted the car out and gave it "der nose job."

    Voila!

    All the best,

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

Thanks for the history. I love a good story like this. Any 'before' pictures ? Especially from when the car was "discovered" ?

    Warmest Regards,

    Ramin

Hi Ramin, I have no prior photos alas and the current owner would have mentioned them to me if they existed.

Since someone asked, I have perused a list of all cars for sale in the Monterey auctions this week but there are no Khamsins on offer.

    Best regards,

    Marc

Ok! Well, I don't see it, never thought of the QP III when looking at these pictures of #328.

Was this video already mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMFYAzeH8_c. The man appears to be a real Khamsin fan. Too bad he calls it the Khasmin, but that's a minor detail :). He does know about Maserati, about Alfieri for instance, if I understand him right.
I think the dark grey car is #016? Don't know if this was already discussed, but there are many pictures (83 articles) of the restoration of # 016 at CARROSSIMO.com » 75? Maserati Khamsin. Beautiful car if you ask me.

Some news from Holland: the RHD car that was for sale in Brummen is no longer at the website.

    Hello AMLC,

Yes 016 (video shot at the first Chantilly Concours a year ago, the other silver K in the video is 202) which for years was owned by a rather bizarre man living near Fontainebleau in France, it is the first K sold in France.

In January 2007 I went with a friend from Grenoble who bought it. I thought he was quite brave even foolhardy to drive several hundred kms in a car that had sat unused for years but he made it home. I remember I had promised to follow him for a few kms before heading home but followed him for something like 30kms, as if hypnotised:) Then realized wait a minute I am sleeping in Paris tonight, not home and Paris is BEHIND me...oops so I finally made a U turn:)!Then he sold it to another from the same city who restores Maseratis but he did not have time to restore it and when the owner of Carrossimo from western France asked me to find him one to restore I arranged the sale in August 2009. Carrossimo then restored it completely, they do very fine work and he chose this gun metal grey color as opposed to the car's birth color (see 2007 photos below). It suits it very well in fact it won the ladies choice prize at KHAMSIN QUARANTA:)

Thanks for the news about the RHD car, hopefully it will get sorted out and enjoyed, it needed a fait bit of work which is why Mike (who sometimes posts here and now has a Ghibli) passed on it when I inspected it for him in January.

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Hello all,

Khamsin 343 the right hand drive car formerly at the Gallery in Brummen Holland has been bought by an enthusiast with a German sounding name living in Provence in the south of France. He contacted me this week. It is not by any means the first time a car with the steering wheel on the other side settles in a country. Another right hand drive, 323 lives in Belgium and numerous left hand drives have spent years in the UK.

    Best regards,

    Marc

RHD in Greece: Maserati Khamsin (1977) | 4??????

Are you at liberty to share more information about 343, like how many owners it has had, does it have matching numbers, why it was for sale in Holland, or other interesting details?
