It seems that several of us have gone through this investigative process, so I understand concerns; but like Steve King - I have not had any issues. Urs the 15340 belt is .430 wide at the top, .215 wide at the bottom and .330 tall (approximate: I get slightly different measurements each time). You ask about the compressor pulley angle, the now removed compressor had the OEM pulley so whatever that angle is, the now installed Sanden from Retro Air is a perfect fit with the 15340 belt.

Yes Gates Polyflex is the Ferrari OEM....for my "2 belts" anyway.

There's actually FOUR belts on the early systems, but never mind the smog pump ones...

Thanks Jerry - depending on the 2 or 3 belt cars - a variety of belts from Gates apply!

    Yes.

I wonder why though? These are not an immediate choice of belt for automotive applications as they are rather fragile.

I used to work on systems which used these belts on cooling blowers are we were forever replacing them. Once the anodising on the pulleys is worn off, the belts lasted only a few weeks so we were always replacing pulleys as well.

Andy, would you know what material automotive a/c clutch pulleys are made of?

    That is good to know!

Thank you, Rich, for the measurements; below the sectional comparison.

So the Retro Air pulley is a regular 40° sheave angle pulley as expected. Ferrari must have had their own 60° pulleys made.

In conclusion, some converted cars run regular belts, some original Polyflex belts. The choice is between fitting the crankshaft and idler pulleys or the compressor's.

FYI the adapter bracket I used was also where the belt tension was adjusted. I removed the idler pulley completely as it was not needed. So the belt ran from the crank directly to the compressor.

I think they are plated steel. But the other pulleys, ie alternator, crank I believe are anodised aluminium.

Yep that's the one and it worked out great. Less moving parts are better.

Steve, did you have a "reverse rotation" clutch or a regular one?

Regular and I call one of the AC places and they told me it wouldn't be a problem with the rotary compressor. I installed it did the usual receiver/drier and new expansion valve. Vacuum leak tested and charged it up with 134A. Running on a cloudy 80* day I got 50* out of the ducts but as we all know the glass in these cars were like a greenhouse and for an after thought system it wasn't very efficient.

Thank you, Steve. When I compare the Ferrari/Sanden to a regular Sanden clutch, I cannot see any difference that would indicate a reversed direction layout on the Ferrari's.

My understanding is that standard auto AC compressors run CCW, but the one on the 308 is set up to run CW? Isn't that true? We are in the process of converting mine to a rotary compressor.

The 308 compressor does run clockwise. Off the top of my head, I can't think of one that does not run clockwise.

Well, I ordered it yesterday, we'll see how it does. The AC supplier said that m ost run CCW. The one I ordered does run CW, because it's "reversed" at the 'front" of the engine.
