What's the exact age group for a millennial anyway? I am 29, and respectfully, if asked to choose between a Boxster or iPhone, I'd choose neither, as both have no value to me. Now, a few years back I did have a shot at a 1914 Napier, but that's just me

 

I'm in my 40s and I'm not sure I have the right answer for you for that one either. Can you ask the question again with a different car?

I think the Mondial is about it as far as entry level Ferrari goes... you may still pick up a 2v 308 but I'd think it needs work. there are a lot of cars still in private hands that have just sat and sat and the cost to re hab is prohibitive to family's left in charge after the owner passed away.

I've always liked the Mondial - mostly the coupe and they do handle a bit better than the 308 ... the cabs, are an acquired taste.. great when its not so hot out, but can get pretty warm with the top down... i dont think they look that great with the top up....

I's also say a 400i can be cheap to buy... but un Godly expensive to maintain and repair...

regardless ... i think the bubble will burst some time in the next 12-14 months so prices will retreat, but i fear not as far as there were 24 months ago.

 

That's both true, and absolute crap at the same time.

A buddy bought a scruffy, but fine running 308 GT4 for all of $7500 sometime back in the 90's. He drove it every damn day of the year, beat on it, and did absolutely NOTHING but change/add oil, add gas, change tires, and minor home wrenching to keep it running for about 4 years - at which point it was in even rougher condition, but still running & he sold it for just shy of $10k.

If it had just flat out DIED and burned to ashes within 2 years of ownership? He would have been out a max of $7500 and would have enjoyed that time of bombing around in one HELL of a fun car. In the grand scheme of things, even that worst case would have been pretty affordable entertainment.

I did exactly the same thing with a Euro 928S I owned for about 4 years. Purchased for $3500 (plus about $600 to ship to me), drove for 4 years - spent maybe $500 in parts over that time, had a blast, and sold it for exactly what I paid. New owner roared off into the distance with a huge grin on his face.

 

Well, admittedly, that $500 was parts only - I didn't factor in $$ for time spent on things like replacing vacuum lines, cleaning contacts & ground connections, etc etc etc...
