Ok, it's no 458 in the sound department, but for a turbo it sounds excellent.

For a turbo it sounds great!

But i was in Le Castellet and a lot of 488 GTB were driven and a 430 Scuderia, a 458 Speciale and a 458 italia joined that driving event.

Scud sound much better, Speciale also and the 458 Italia was top sound of the whole group.

    :D

To be honest, the 488 leaves me a little bit cold and after i heard several
drive by in high rev i was a dissapointed and only the older models save the show for me! :)

But i saw a black 488 in front of the circuit and it like it a lot more than the red ones
and it was the first time that i´m a litte bit more engaged on that model.

For me, the 458 is a keeper and i will pass on the 488.

But the kids runs crazy... :D

Maybe my favorite Ferrari of all time. Had not seen that one - thanks for the link. Amazing praise for a car that old.

This post is sure to annoy some. Below are side views of the old 308 GTB and the new 488 GTB. Now Ferrari tells us that the side intake on the 488 is a nod to the 308.

But take a close look. The ad is of course suggestive but notice how the side intake follows along and is consistent with the line defining the greenhouse, how they go together to make the gorgeous coke bottle shape that is signature of the 308... and the 328 that followed it.

Now compare to the 488. Notice that the side intake is placed alone on the body. It certainly doesn't seem to know that the bottom of the greenhouse is just a few inches away. It just does its thing. The greenhouse line is of course carried over from the 458 where it is part of the "flare" of the aluminum "scarf" that runs back to the rear intakes. It goes on the 458; the eye tells you that it doesn't work here.

We say that styling is subjective. Often it is but sometimes it isn't. Your eye tells you whether something is right -- or not.

Agree that the side intake on the 488 doesn't flow too well with the general lines of the car. This picture really highlights the disconnection in the design.

Koop. I think the stylists try to rescue the design by manipulating the creases at the head of the intake and the one that runs over the rear wheel well. While it is easy to be critical one appreciates the practical need to bring in a great amount of air. From a design point of view however it would have been better if the line of the greenhouse could have been changed, but I assume that no-change was a constraint they were operating under. The roof and greenhouse come from the 458.
