I just can't say it any better than that.

I will add......the Diablo is brutal, visceral and is still as fast as pretty much anything out there....acceleration and top speed.....unlike the Testarossa.

...and you don't feel like you're driving a stupid video game. ;)

So the time to get in is...now? I'm talking about the early 2wd cars not the later ones which are outside my price range...

I honestly can't answer that for you...I'm not a speculator in the market, I drive the cars.

I will say this, even if the market cools off, I just don't think they will go below 100k. It just has everything when you say the word...."exotic"
When a car becomes a collectible, It's sought after and the supply becomes even more scarce. When's the last time you saw a Countach in a non high end concourse atmosphere?

If you have the means, look to jump in, you WON'T be disappointed with the car.

First Lamborghini out at Mecum today:
    1990 Countach 25th Anniversary @ Mecum Monterey Saturday August 15th 2015
    Lot S31

    Red/tan
    3124 kilometers
    VIN: ZA9CA05A6LLA12922
    ESTIMATE: $400,000 - $500,000

This late-production example was built in January 1990 and delivered new to a Montreal, Quebec, Lamborghini dealer finished in shimmering Rosso Perlato with a Tan leather interior accented with Red piping, one of only four believed to be produced with this combination. It remained in Montreal until being exported in 2015 to Florida, where it won Best in Class at the Amelia Island Festivals of Speed. It has been inspected and serviced by a licensed Lamborghini dealer, and comes with the original tool roll, U.S.-specification owner’s manual and Carfax. It will be offered at auction with fewer than 3,124 kilometers or 1,985 miles, one of the lowest-mileage 25th Anniversary Editions in existence.

    - 3,124 actual kilometers
    - Won Amelia Island “Lamborghini Best in Class Vintage” March 14, 2015 Festivals of Speed
    - As a 1990 carry over, this car was a very late production date Jan. 1990
    - Very last year for the Countach
    - Extremely rare Metallic Rosso Perlato with Tan Leather interior and Red Piping
    - Believed to be one of 4 in this color combination
    - One of the most striking and distinctive colors which changes with any variance of light
    - Complete inspection and service by Licensed Lamborghini dealer June 2015
    - Originally delivered in Canada and remained there until Jan. 2015
    - Imported with all US Duties paid in full
    - receipt included
    - No US delivered 25th Anniversary cars for 1990 although it was produced as a North American specification model
    - Believed to be one of 25 1990 year model cars
    - Proper factory installed rear wing
    - Sold new at Montreal, Ontario Lamborghini dealer
    - Complete tool roll and US Owner’s Manual
    - Carfax documents vehicle history as presented

With the scarce inventory of 2WD cars on the open market it's tough to say there is ever a "time" to get in. They pop up at random intervals, but at least there is a general understanding of market values (with the exception of a certain dealer that is trying to drive the market price, buying a car with no documentation, with the community knowing what they paid for it, and then relisting that car at 100% over what they paid...down right offensive...I linked to another car they have for sale earlier in this thread...again asking close to double what they paid).

I am not familiar with the two cars that are at Mecum, but Roy seems to really have his finger on the pulse of the market...really curious to see what the second car does today.

Aside from his wing delete gem, there was a blue (that someone wants to turn purple! please don't do that...but it is your car...) at Marshall Goldman that was unique, seemed sorted and ready to be driven.

In my opinion, the "best" available recently was this black on black with under 12k miles out of Paul Motors in Canada...not sure on service history, but that thing was sex on wheels...the ask was high-ish ($170k)...but not obnoxious...I liked it personally because it was black on black with no interior piping...

1991 Lamborghini Diablo For Sale In Montreal | MTL Blog

...in my opinion, ultimately it comes down to if the right car comes up for sale that hits the marks you want rather than "window" in which one indiscriminately purchases the car purely for investment purposes.

I don't understand why you would take a Muira S any classic Italian car worth over 500k and sell at Mecum. Just doesn't seem like the optimal venue for this. Never heard of record prices for this type of car. Have read of cars tanking here.

Nice car. A lot of paint touch ups every where, some poorly done and a few metal issues under paint. But as they say it's original only once.

Can't argue this one. I know a few others on here stated that it doesn't matter. Where the car is, is where the bidders will go........but jeez.

Would guess that correcting the flaws/inaccuracies would make for a better investment, though maybe the math doesn't indicate this to be worthwhile?

I believe you perhaps have it wrong here!
What was stated was that I, as a buyer, wouldn't care when or where a coveted car was offered.
That be at Mecum, Gooding Co, RM Sotheby's, Russo And Steele, Barrett-Jackson or any other company.

On the other hand, as a seller you need to pick your audience.

Will a certain auction house do more for a seller than others as far as getting the word out? Or is it once a car is going to auction it will seem everyone will know?
Again, I'm a spectator when it come to these types of auctions.

I wonder if Mecum owns some of these cars such as the Miura S .

I think certain owners just don't care, and are not bothered to make the effort to get it right, which is interesting considering these are collectibles. Whether they are lazy or not knowledgeable enough is another matter, but the bottom line is that most Miuras or Countachs you ever encounter feature mods or departures that if properly corrected would make the car much better overall. But, its the owner's prerogative to keep the car as they wish, let's not forget that.

Perhaps you are right on the Miura S.
Maybe some others here can chime in.

But not on the Countach sold minutes ago at least.
I did see the owner/seller during the sale.
He's a Lchat member as well.

And I believe he's not that happy with the outcome/sale!
    Estimate was way over 385k.

    Another significantly below-estimate sale.

A similar car with similar miles sold for $65k more a few months back.

Is this the Rosso Perlato car with just 1,941 miles?

The car is a no-sale, or hammered at $385k? Please confirm.
