I don't know what else to do so I'm posting it here. Someone asked about the visor repair and I told them it would be about a month before I got more parts, I lost the contact information The parts are in now so anyone with a 550 or 575 who has a drooping visor can contact me by PM or email for details.
I just posted ad ad in Ferrari Parts for sale that may answer questions. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144134143-post1.html
I just joined the forum so that I could contact you regarding 550 visor fix. Can't find any link for "PM" in your posts or your profile, and can't find your email address. How do I PM or email you? Thanks, Brian Coats
Brian- You have too few posts to be able to do private messages, most likely. Start a thread with some photos of your 550 and maybe you can get over the hump. Prevents boorish behavior from folks just trolling the site.
Just a very enthusiastic thumbs up for Dave's excellent visor work. Guido (our 550, a.k.a. my wife's 'sleek Italian boyfriend') had the usual droopy passenger mirror malady (due, as oft discussed, to astoundingly crappy internal plastic parts). After removing it (3 minutes) and tossing it in a 2-day box to Dave it was returned within a few days and screwed back on. It is virtually perfect and, given how he does the internal fix, I'm sure the repair will outlive the earth's supply of fossil fuels.
Hi All, Thanks for the kind words, but I have to suspend visor repairing for a few weeks. I just had the second total knee replacement and am out of commission for awhile. I had forgotten how much this hurts. Thanks, Dave
Dave- Get well soon. With most of those pain meds, there is no reason for alcohol. The pills do pretty much the same thing. My visor still works flawlessly and finally allowed me to use a sun shade.
Just sent you a PM about the repair (my 550 passenger side has the ailment) then saw this. Ouch, sounds painful. Get better soon.
Another prospective MSW customer here! Just one question... it appears that that majority of reports that I read on here refer to the failure of the passenger side sun visors only. That is my issue (e.g. LHD car, passenger side droop). Is it the case that the passenger side is more prone to fail or perhaps that they get more use (seems improbable since the passenger will be empty more of the time) and is the situation simply reversed for RHD markets? If someone has the answer to this conundrum, they may be able to submit their answer for an Ig Nobel Prize.
If you read through this thread you should find the answer. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/456-550-575-sponsored-bradan/285072-sunvisor-fix.html In short, they are made differently. The passenger visor support arm is hollow to allow for the vanity mirror wiring. Add in the extra weight of that visor mirror, poor build quality, equals premature failure. Bill FL
I understand that someone is fixing the sun visors on 575M passenger side. I tried to repair mine and it broke again. I bought a new one from Ferrari, and that one broke too. So I have a broken one that no repair has been attempted yet. I heard of a hand make aluminum fix, that's permanent. I also thought about buying the part for a right hand drive car and running the wires for the mirror light exposed instead of through the tube. Don't know if that would work. I would be happy to pay someone to do a permanent fix if someone is available, I am in no great rush as I am currently using velcro on my old visor. I can send the new one for repair. Contact me at [email protected].
Fred, Dave (Ferraridriver) is the man for the visor fix: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/456-550-575-sponsored-bradan/507290-visor-repair.html
Just got my sun visor back from Dave. His fix for this was perfect. Cant even tell the visor was touched and it has a great "snap" action and now stays in place. Its the little things like this that make me happy. No more droopy sun visor. I highly recommend Dave. I had it back to me in 2 days, now that's fast service! Thank you Dave
Thanks for the kind words Dom, The way I handle shipping is I require a prepaid return label with the visor. This insures the return address is correct and the customer gets to decide the shipping method and there are no hidden costs involved. To answer a question above about the passenger side failing more often, there was a change sometime, I don't know when, in the driver's side hinge pin. Some are solid plastic and these should not break. Some have the hollow tube inside the plastic and these will fail just like the passenger side. I've repaired both sides on some cars. Turn around is usually two days. Any other questions please PM me.
