    When I first looked at the pictures with the tape, I thought you were painting the car and I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ... but pleased to see it's just a detail! Phew.

    Which prompts an interesting question. I recently saw a 288 advertised that has supposedly received a "cosmetic repaint".

    With 288s being 30 years old now, I believe most cars still have original paint but presumably over the next 10 years there will be an increasing temptation to paint cars as the paint will undoubtedly start to show its age.

    Do you think the market would discount such "cosmetic" paint jobs, or with time will it be seen as a good thing, like it is currently for cars of older vintages?

    Someone (Steve?) mentioned before that the factory paint is of an inconsistent red color on the various body panels. Might be tricky to duplicate that 'authentic look' on a newly painted 288 GTO.
    The GTO currently inhabits a unique position where it is obviously not a new car but it also isn't considered an old car in the way that a car from the 1960's would be thought of. Factory paint 1960's cars are becoming quite rare now. The quest for a 'perfect' looking car has seen to that.
