    Hello all,

Regrettably, I've recently started considering selling my 88.5 black Testarossa. It's far from perfect, and I'd rather make it that way before selling, but I have neither the extra money kicking around, nor the time.
    It has about 46,500 miles.
The last major service was done by Carlo at Alfa of Tacoma in 2011, so it does need a major.
There is quite a bit of dash shrinkage, and I've been meaning to get the seats reupholstered, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I replaced the injectors with brass injectors, but have not done the gold connector upgrade.
I had issues with the overheating connectors, so I fixed that by running wires around the high current loads and have had no issues since.
The AC is still R12 and was charged about two years ago.
The car has been in two accidents, and I have all paperwork describing the repairs in painstaking detail. No frame damage. The first time the rear left tire blew out while I was driving through a tunnel and the left front hit the sidewalk. The second time, I let somebody else drive it and they lost control is Seattle and bumped into a wall.
As I said, I have extensive history of the repairs.

My main question is, how much should I expect to realistically get for it? If I were to reupholster the dashboard and the seats, it still needs a full major. Around $50k would be great, but I know that's just wishful thinking. With the car being in need of a major, reupholstering needed, and the accident history, I'm thinking $42k sounds more reasonable.
    Thoughts?

Bradwilliams got 60k for his with a disclosed salvage title. I wouldn't go so low.

Put it on ebay with a 50k reserve and see what happens. Just disclose everything so you look like a straight shooter.

Thanks! Only problem is, I've never sold anything on eBay. I have bought a few things, but don't have the positive feedback I know I'd look for when buying a car, especially a Ferrari.

Haha....I have the same issue. I've bought stuff on ebay but never sold anything either. I would just try to document everything with your car with lots of pictures. Offer to view the car in person etc.

There's a 91 I'm watching just for fun and it's already up to 105K with 4 days to go.

I may do the same for the exposure but since I've never created an ad, I don't know how to do it and I don't have the time to get to it right now.

Yeah, I just checked. It's been so long since I even bought anything, I have a 0.0% positive feedback. All the old comments are still there (from 2001 through 2003 mostly).
I would not buy from me on eBay. I won't count this out as a viable option, though.

You may not "sell" it through EBAy but it is a great marketing tool to get the word out about your car. I bought my TR from an eBay seller (back in 2006) and I have no idea what kind of feedback rating he had. I saw the car advertised, contacted him, and did a normal car deal - ppi, personal inspection and test drive, etc.

What is the worst that can happen? You sell the car for the reserve price that you set.

BTW - with what the market is doing right now, I agree with Shamile, don't set your expectations too low. You may be surprised!

I never sold anything on eBay until I sold some superbowl tickets. In that scenario the buyers were fine because my eBay account had been around since 1999, and I put that in my ad.

True knocking Shamile. Mine however was mechanically perfect and with gold kit. No shrinking on dash, original leather in excellent condition. And the car was overall clean. This car clearly is in the same boat as mine in terms of the title, but non OEM seats. IMO mine since mine was 61k, I'd take the cost of the major, the dash, and the seats and the overall condition into consideration. Sounds like a 45k in car in today's "market".
Mine and Robbie's :) did have the title issue but she was clean as whistle, regardless of what was said on the forum. Hope this helps and good luck. What color is it?

First question, does it have a clean title or salvage?

    Assuming a clean title:

    Selling price as is $50,000
    Major $8,000
Dave Helms fuse box kit $1,800
    Interior work $8,000
    Updated Diff $4,000

At $72k the buyer will still have the lowest priced TR for sale that I know of with a fresh major and updated diff.

Yes, there will probably be other things that might need attention while the engine is out, but at $50K buy in.....there is room to play with.

Like others have said, list it honestly and you might not sell it on Ebay but you will find a buyer. Get ready for a lot of dealers looking for a flip....in fact I wouldnt be surprised if you dont get some PM's

If it does not have a salvage title as you describe why not ask somewhere in the $60's and sit on it for a few weeks. There are many out there who would love to get into a T.R. for well under $100k.

Yes, it has a clean title.
Thanks for the feedback, everybody! This is really eye-opening. I had no idea the value had gone up so much over the past year.

A condition 4 TR (the lowest) quotes out at $68,000 on the Hagerty valuation chart. So take that for what its worth. Dont sell yourself short.

And we all know that Hagerty is usually 3-5 months behind the curve when it comes to their pricing. The T.R. value may have upticked further after this weekend's sales.

Yeah nice to know this is a loyal forum - some other places you would get your pants pulled down and the car stolen from u for sub 50k!

Really got to be 60-70k car as others have said. Even at 60k theres a good profit there for sum1 to turn it around with a fresh major and a bit of sorting. Ez 100-110k car surely after that and that's not even allowing for future price increases.

Bear in mind also a lot of ppl are now happy to leave major intervals 5-7 years now (for a regularly used and maintained car).

I think at say 60k u shld get a real quick sale and make someone very happy who desperately wants a Testarossa and has seen the recent price rises but doesn't have 100k+ to spend on a ready sorted one.

We can only go on your description but it sounds honest and should be a real good opportunity for someone.

    Good luck.

    Dom.

No knocking here Kurt. We all know the amount of work that went into your /ex Chairman car. I was explaining that Saltie should be as honest as you were when you disclosed the salvage title issue....and from a pricing point still got a strong number for that time.

No one outside this community is going to know what a gold connector kit, Dave Helms fuse box or upgraded diff is. Make the car super clean and detail it to death. Show all the good and show all the bad. If a potential buyer gets a feel for your honesty, they'll consider it.

.....or come on here and ask " does anyone know this car?" ;)

Damn good price for a dismantled spare parts car, if you ask me. Just for grins, look at what spare parts sell for on eBay motors. Personally, I think the ask price may be too low. On the other hand, a decent project car for someone who enjoys and takes pride in bringing such a car back to life. GLWS.

Dismantled parts car? Bringing it back to life? I will be the first to admit, it has a few issues, but it runs very well. It has no mechanical issues, it just has the major coming due in the next year or so. Unless, a Testarossa coming up on a major isn't worth it, so might as well part it out? The leather shrinkage and worn seats are an annoyance and imperfections, but both are pretty common. I simply haven't gotten around to fixing them.

I know I focused on the things that are wrong with the car, but I wanted to get an idea of how much I should reasonably ask, and ultimately expect to sell it for.

It's definitely a driver's car, but far from a parts car IMHO.

    Olin,

Its not a parts car by any means. A good detail and it will sell quick. There are buyers who actually like a car due for a major because they can decide how much they want to do when the engine is out. Nothing you mentioned is a fatal flaw for a buyer.

lol...he meant the price you started with is what you would pay for a parts car, not yours.

Correct. He underpriced his car. That's exactly what I meant.

My bad., OP. Please accept my apology.
Do not underestimate the value of your car and simply give it away!!!!

Oh I soooooo don't have the time/energy for a project but I do have Competizione close buy. 45k for the car and a check to Fernando for another 40k and then we have a pair of 80s f-cars all up to date and happy and working great.

I sent a note to my wife....
