Well, biting the bullet and having my car appraised Monday so I can increase my coverage with State Farm... Anything over 100k, they want an appraisal...

    1987 testarossa, 15,500 miles
    white/red
I am the second owner, no accidents, no damage
Due for a major (though I don't know if the appraisers even worries about that)
Dealer records from LFSC from when I bought it (9000 miles at the time), including last major about 8 years ago
    Has original tools/jack/books

I would say a #2 car, driven 4-5x a year... tops. (yes... garage queen)

So, what do folks figure its "worth"?

Any resources I should point the appraiser to? The company state farm recommended was "Valenti Classics" out of milwaukee. Looks like they do a lot of muscle cars/british cars/etc...

I plan to bring the print out from Haggerty...

Any other info I should bring? Anyone have good links to recent sales on the internet? Dealer listings? Anything?

    Thanks, Bo

I go with American Collectors called them last week and they'll go to $124.5k agreed value on my '85 w/32k mi w/o an appraisal. As a data point back in Feb they'd go to $80k.

    PM sent as well.

    Thanks!

I am curious what they say... searched EBAY, these cars are asking $180,000-$250,000...

    I am hoping for 150k...

Not sure what the appraiser looks at for a "value." Not like you can look at KBB...

Tell them YOU HAVE NO INTENTION ON SELLING IT otherwise there may be motive to understate the value.

Originality is key. Also if you have sorted anything out, make that clear to them.

Good lick and tell us how it goes

If you do suffer a loss below ACV you can always deduct uninsured loss on your taxes, in case you're predisposed to self insure or can't get appraisal/insurance to accurately reflect market value or replacement cost

I have an white '89 with 14,xxx miles. It's insured as stated policy for $100k at State Farm also.
I think you can easily insure it for $135,000 as there was a red on tan last weekend at Mecum that sold for around that much. I'm sure there are others sold for around that much which you can show to the appraiser.
One noteworthy point with State Farm, they do have a rider in place which states that at fault losses incurred will only be covered if the driver is taking the car to an auto show or for repairs.

I asked my insurer about that, and he said that there is no such rider in wisconsin. I do wonder if this is a state to state thing. He showed me the only rider that applied, and it was 2 paragraphs long, stating that my car would now be insured for stated value as long as it was maintained in its current shape.

He said that the classic car insurance is NOT a seperate policy. It is simply the same policy I always had, which allowed driving to work, etc. The ONLY change was this 1 page rider. When I recieved my policy in the mail, that was the only included rider.

I specifically asked if I can go out for icecream with the kids, drive around tne neighborhood, etc. He said (and I have it in emails) that there was no issue at all with this.

    Bo,

Good for you. When I went to State Farm here in California, he was upfront and showed me exactly what Stardoc said....to and from car events only.
