Looks good to me, why are you repainting?

    Is it original?

Doesn't really look like it needs it, but of course you can see much more detail than the picture shows. Going to keep it the same color? If not, any thoughts on color choice?

Love the 328 GTB, by the way :D

It has some rust bubbles at lower door panels and lower side of wheel arches. I had a foreign object hit the underside of right mudguard which left two dents. I also have about six veins like rust under paint work. To repair all, it would end up with patches of paint. It would be a neat her job to do the whole car.

From the purist-side of me I applaud your choice: Keep it the same color. However, the metallic paints are just so nice -- that's the bias side of me coming through.

    Good luck. Post pictures.

I was in a similar position a few years ago. The guy I used was top notch. His opinion was that my paint was good and that patching was the best option.
A bare metal respray isn't necessarily the only choice.

A good shop can paint match and restore the old paint.

If it were my car (beauty as she is!) , I would have the rust and dings repaired and painted. The markets today tend to like "original" paint.......!

What should the cost of a re spray or a paint job? Or in general what have people paid to get their 308 or 308 GT4 painted? I just picked up a 308GT4 that I believe will need to be repainted. Just want to budget accordingly...

For a non-bare metal respray, I've been quoted as low as $3k and as high as $6k on my GT4. Both shops are known to do good work - one is just more of a "one man operation," (the lower priced one), so I would expect a longer turn-around.

For bare metal, I would imagine no less than $10k (and probably closer to $15k)...just a guess, though.

would't price also depend on how in depth they prepair the car before paint? Wheather they will be removing all the trim, glass, tail light, turn signals etc to mask off before the car is repainted? Or would they just be masking off these items? I would be afraid of the paint lines. Anyone who has painted their car what has been you experience regarding this? Looking to get my new 308 Dino GT4 painted. Thoughts or direction is appreciated..

    The only way to paint correctly is to bare metal and take off all the trim plus glass out. If it just local touching in then no need to go to these lengths. Take a look at the attached for an idea of what goes on;

I see no reason using time and money for going to bare metal unless there is need for metalwork or if the old paint is incompatible with the new witch should not be an issue with the reasonable new 328.

I had a quote a few years back to repaint my GTB roof as it was starting to "cloud". We also know that red paint is more expensive then other colors but to do the job it would have cost me $3K. I suspect today if you want to get a mask , sand , prep and spray it would run around $10K. As for a bare metal which includes glass and door and hood removal similar to a restoration would run min. of $15K. You get what you pay for.

Yes, absolutely - I also subscribe to that "YGWYPF" belief. However, there is (in a sense) a Ferrari "tax" that applies in these instances. That's not to say I believe that paint shops increase the bid when they see a prancing horse on the hood, but rather *we* owners tend to gravitate toward those shops whom we feel are worthy enough to touch our precious machines. Those shops, in turn, have a higher price because their work (rather, their portfolio) can command it.

It's doubtful many of us would leave our cars in a shop that does hot rods or collision work, but I would go out on a limb and bet that any GOOD hot rod painter could shoot a 308 for less than $15k - way less, actually - and have it measure up to most "parking lot show" standards.

    Pebble Beach, that's another story...
