Who is Ashley Madison?
I think you need an additional poll option: Hacking and distribution of private information is sometimes okay. This is definitely not a situation in which it is okay though.
What concerns not only me, but the IT security industry, is exponential acceleration of computing power to unlock the prime number codes used at present is almost on us now. So what little security we think we have with everything on line will be gone. it makes the hunt for new security protocols, coding systems so important. I had a work CC hacked recently and when I asked the IT guys said there are computers that generate numbers randomly at a huge rate and they regularly snag a number....
It clearly states in the release that they are ONLY releasing the info because of the companies dirty practices. The fact that the users are "cheaters" is an added bonus. It even states they been collecting data for years and they called out 3 employees. Seems odd to call out employees if you are just faceless hackers doing it for "lulz/high horse". This is the 1st time Impact Team has released a hack. If they were a known hacking group doing it for the lulz they would of gone after multiple companies. Plenty of dodgy companies they can take down with their skills.
hmmmm....interesting. Elsewhere I read it was done because they didn't agree with the morals of the customers...this is completely different. However, their tactics of trying to punish the site is still punishing private individuals....so regardless, they're not doing the right thing, and I call BS on their claim. If they just wanted to bring down AM, they could have just revealed the proof of what they'd done wrong without screwing the customers over.
You are not looking at IT security properly or from all perspectives. Humanbeings look after all IT data. You don't need to unlock prime numbers, you just need to find your "Smedley" and you will get your data. I know as I used to support IT systems and often I could see anything I liked. Of course I signed a piece of paper saying that I would never share this information, and I being an honest person who grew up in a (close to) corrupt free country never will, but fncked if I am going to consider a financially struggling "Indian" (just for example) being able to remain honest. Corruption in many of the countries that now look after IT systems thanks to outsourcing means your data is open to the first, not necessarily the highest, bidder. Will be interesting to see how this pays out over the next few years ... Pete ps: Thinking of your point more, it still fascinates me that so many companies have so much data accessible via the internet. Sure it means your IT guys can work from home, but if it really needs to be secure, don't put that stuff on your internet connected servers ... pretty damn simple!
Pete thank you again some good insight . I work for the Federal government and have full access via an Ipad from home. There is a a code generator that is linked to the Main Server which trips ever three days. However after watching a show recently( meaning its half correct) I was somewhat spooked.
Many years ago a govt office worker had a suspect hard drive error which was changed out by one of our field engineers, later the drive was found to not be at fault so the guys thought they would pull the data off for the guy only to find one directory had triple DES encryption . One of the more unscrupulous techs decided to use several super computers to break the encryption to see what was so secret ............. wives participating in orgies and other suspect sexual activities came to light, all very interesting and stupid that someone "thought" their data was "safe" , nothing is safe in the digital world
This is absolutely correct. Don't believe the media fantasies of evil genius' hackers using super computers to crack encryption, the fact is that 99.99% of breaches are inside jobs.
your invented stories are getting more and more bizarre John. "several super computers" just happened to be standing buy for the use of a drop-kick support engineer? He cracked triple DES? Really? Wives' orgies? no comment. I supplied billing systems to telcos around the world for 20 years, every dodgy country you can think of, lots of credit card and bank data, we used triple DES and had not one breach, ever.
I did a search of the Ashley Madison stuff by putting in addresses of some fchat members. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....interesting!
Don't be mean, although in a strange coincidence, Ashley Madison is also the name of moretti's nurse.
It was purported to be triple DES by the support engineer and I had little reason to call him a liar. I was working for DEC at the time and we had plenty of super computers online to "play" with being part of the ALPHA wrecking crew back in the early 90s. It took over 3 days for the directory to be cracked, I had nothing to do with it , I have little interest in doing such stuff but the results were shameful I find it funny you call me a lair without really knowing anything about my background
