Carbon Fiber is great product BUT no one and I mean military aviation, know its fatigue life. I went to a presentation on this, there is as specialist group within the a world wide Military group working on the problem but its finding will not be made to the commercial world..

Carbon Fiber if it catches fire its treated the same as asbestos....

Next time you are in the ALFA dealers ask them how they treat the damage to the tub. They don't ALFA Italy make the determination at this point in time.

I also believe that Ferrari has been made stand on its own and Sergio Marchionne has a good track record of turning a profit.

Third thing this will also ensure the Classics retain their value hand made cars can be hand repaired.

 

The parts sharing potential between a mid-engined sports car and a front-engined V12 2+2 must be huge...

 

The result all depends on how it is implemented. Could result in better developed, more robust vehicles with more exciting stuff, or it could result in junk. But it's not an American company, it's Sergio's company and he works for the Agnellis.
And au-yt is right about carbon fiber. Look at the Porsche Carrera GT, a two seat carbon fiber car that weighs over 3,000 pounds, primarily because they had to be very conservative with the lack of knowledge on fatigue and aging.
In my opinion, a V-12 and gated shifter are far more important than aluminum versus carbon fiber

 

This will result in cookie cutter cars with an expensive name. Ferrari is now a fashion accessory. Not an enthusiasts car. Not that it didn't start with the 360.

P.S The video at the bottom of the Lego guy building a Lego Ferrari was very cool.

 

Not so sure, time will tell but the article seems to be high on speculation and fairly low on perceived fact.

Two words; Bad News......Knowing that my incoming F12 may very well be the last model with a NA V12 ( excepting the F12 VS) and now this news makes me think I made a very good purchase decision.

 

Report of a report... Lame journalism. Concept is lame too. Too many compromises to make a design that can handle front and mid engine designs. Aston makes one platform that stretches from vantage up to vanquish. All front engine designs.

Could see them formalizing platforms, eg f12 and ff for front perhaps. 488 and Dino for mid engine. SUV and pickup. 8^)

After that, sound like all speculation. And Ferrari has a lot of carbon fiber experience now. So I think they will commit to more not less and this is just FUD...

I beg to differ and would go as far to say, hogwash. Go tell that to the pilots of the 787, F22 F35, every Mclaren built car, every F1 team, every fabricator, etc. CF is superior to aluminum in every way, except cost.

Sergio's plan to destroy Ferrari to save Chrysler before he retires is right on track.

"Shared platforms" = cost reduction and compromise.

 

Does that make it a good idea?

 

For that reason and only...somebody has to stop him and do it fast. If he do that, Ferrari will loose not only the credibility but maybe a lot of future buyers..

Tough times i know but some things has to stay as it is.
