Here is a quick buyer beware post for username "i-velocita" He had posted in the classifieds section that he had 3 sets of brand new 18" BBS challenge wheels yesterday. I had contacted him shortly after via the email he posted in the ad ([email protected]) and said I was interested in the final 2 sets for sale. We negotiated the price and then told me that he was in the Philippines for work and did not has access to paypal. and preferred wire or Money Gram. Once I requested wire transfer information, (the seller representing himself as Jim), provided me bank wire instructions for his company based out of HK. The images used in his for sale ad, was from another member's previous ad. The REAL Jim also has an ebay store, so I contact him there as a cross reference, and the ebay user confirmed it was not him selling the wheels here on f-chat. I know there were a few members also interested in the wheels, so I warn you not to send payment. I had also posted a warning thread directly in the classifieds section, but the mods removed it (which I think is doing a dis-service to warn their members about the scam) I don't believe "I-velocita" (Jim) is a bad person, I just think his account was hacked. Feel free to pm me with any questions, or reply here. and hopefully the mods won't take this thread down.
Saw the ad and heard the same scam story from another Fchatter. I agree that on the surface, and without explanation, pulling down a warning to other Fchatters is a disservice. That said, there could be more to the story. If so, it'd be nice if one of the mods could explain/elaborate on what happened. Hopefully, nobody is out any money. Biggest thing that gave me pause was that the deal sounded just a bit too good to be true, but just plausible enough to warrant curiosity. Plus the ad appeared to be from a reputable/known seller.
here is the response from the real Jim in Colorado... sorry for the low resolution. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I will vouch for the real Jim, dealt with him for years... What happened here? Someone opened an account that "looked like" his?? He's in Colorado, first of all, NOT the Phillipines!!!
and even if you were in the Philippines, if you have access to respond to my emails...you CLEARLY have access to paypal! Here is a copy of our communication... (I deleted my own email for privacy) Image Unavailable, Please Login
actually, he must have some how hacked directly into Jim's account, because I also emailed Jim through his account here to verify and the same hacker responded. I know it has to be Jim's account because it had a 2000+ post count.
Just as a quick update, I have been in direct contact with the real i-velocita (Jim) and he has confirmed that he have not been able to log into F-chat for the last few days. He will be trying to work with Rob to get back on-line. But in the meantime, don't send any money to the supposed seller of the wheels. It is a confirmed scam.
I bought my shields from I-velocita and it was a great transaction. People, please NEVER send money for any purchases via Money Gram or Western Union. That is rule #1!
For the record, I had a PM randomly the other day from this user. When I clicked the link it went to a fchat login page, so i proceeded... I realised within 30 seconds what had happened, and changed my password. See the screengrab below, and note the link at the bottom which shows where the "fchat" link goes to.... WOW. Two nights ago I got an email alert from another Ferrari forum (based in the UK), that somebody tried to sign into my account 5 times with the incorrect password, and it was being suspended. I signed in (legitimately) and immediately changed my PW to a 20-byte mixed case string. I bet its the same person, trying to impersonate Ferrari sellers as part of their scam. The failed scammer originates from IP 109.163.234.2 Know your seller, for sure.
Yeah I claimed a set on the post and then cancelled once it started smelling bad. I hope no one got ripped off here. Thanks
I've looked in both the Ferrari cars and Ferrari parts section, and can find any thread referring to this ... deleted or not. Where did you post you're warning thread? Mike
I posted the warning in the parts classifieds section yesterday morning at approximately 9:00am PST. It was posted as a (Taken off market) thread. I also posted a reply thread, pointing to another previous thread in which the picture of the wheels were taken from. The fake seller also shortly reposted the wheels at 9:02am saying that 2 sets were still available. Both threads were subsequently removed. Later yesterday, I sent a PM to El Wayne voicing my concern of why my warning should not have been taken down since others may have directly emailed the seller outside of f-chat like I had. But I have not heard back from the mod.
I also went down the potential purchase path with him. he told me different stories about why he could not call me to discuss the possible deal. the seller identified himself to me as Phong Lee. He asked me to deposit cash directly into a citbank account. Yeah right, like i would do that. I also contacted 2 mod's about this incident and got a response from el wayne. I hope the mod's look into this incident.. I'm a bit surprised by their seeming lack of concern, but as always caveat emptor. Craig
Are you sure you clicked "Submit Reply" and saw it go up on the site? Sometimes if I'm using browser tabs, I accidentally close the tab thinking I've sent the message when I haven't done so. The reason I ask is that I am also a mod in the Classifieds and we can all see deleted posts/threads in our assigned areas as well as in a member's post history and created threads history, even if it was deleted by another mod. Weirdly, I don't see any evidence whatsoever of such a post or thread ever having existed. All the best, Andrew.
Andrew - I witnessed the thread. I had last checked it out just after midnight (EST) on Tuesday night and it appeared that the 3 sets of 360 Challenge wheels being offered up for sale had been spoken for. On Wed a.m., an FChatter called me to tell me that he heard it was a scam, as he had seen X-TNSIV's posted warning on the thread. When I went to check on the the post, the entire thread was gone. I assumed that it had been deleted by the mods, though I couldn't understand why this would be. Fwiw, my browser history shows no evidence that such a thread ever existed (as there's no record that I was there). Weird. EDIT - I just didn't search my browser history well. This was the classified thread, http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/ferrari-parts-collectibles/497799-%2A%2A3-sets%2A-brand-new-18-magnesium-360-challenge-wheels.html
yes, I saw the post go up, then I clicked reply and saw that post show up as well when I refreshed the website (just to make sure it posted).
Hi guys, I'm back. Rob was away or otherwise busy and his wife Jennie was very helpful in getting me back on the forum. Hopefully the hi-jacker is gone for good. It will be interesting to learn if they ever track him down. Thanks to X-TNSIV for being sharp and spotting this guy's activity and letting us know there was a problem (I was aware that I could not sign on to F-Chat but it didn't occur to me that someone had hi-jacked my account). Thanks also to BigTex and GordonF355 for their fine character references. All ended well I guess. Best...Jim
Now that the initial scare has been averted, and a BIG THANK YOU to X-TINSIV for alerting this board (since I too had sent an inquiry to purchase), the other huge concern is: You let Big Tex be a character reference?!?! Do you see how your problems are destined to multiply? Your troubles are just beginning!
Yeah Jim I just need the tracking number for the two sets I paid for in full. I want to make sure I am here when the UPS guy comes. TIA. LOL!!!!!!!!! Glad to hear the shyster was foiled.
