All I could find was an article about a couple of Argentinians from 2 Oct 11.

Just play somewhere else. That's the busty of Vegas, lots of variety.

Maxing pass line odds at 2x is the biggest FU to gamblers. It's not even worth playing at that point. 6:5 blackjack is almost as bad. I second the WTF. Seems to me that a hurting casino would want to entice gamblers to come, not drive them away.

If you look at the article I posted, it sort of makes sense. People today have a short attention span. They play a few hands and leave. The odds changes don't matter so much in the short run.

There are fewer gamblers and more players now. The uninformed don't get or see the difference.

Thanks for sharing that article. I did read it after I posted and it makes a lot of sense and for the most part mirrors my own experiences at the tables. I typically see guys playing with the $100 their wife allows them, or guys like the one in the article who show up and drop all of their money on one bet hoping to score big. I imagine Instagram and Facebook are full of pictures of blinged out dudes taking selfies with their $100 horn bet. Yes I'm bitter about this :D

Las Vegas gambling is just not the same anymore and actually has been this way for many years now. It's actually a joke, odds are totally against the player.

They need to finance all the building somehow.

You gotta go downtown. I think downtown is cool. Old Vegas still lives there if you look for it.

For those who play within a very specific system to minimize the downside risk over a long period of play.... Downtown LV. Golden Nugget/Binons/4 Queens still have that "Old LV" feel....Yes, it is still cool!

Many of the strip properties had 6:5 wins on their single deck games for years...but maintained 3:2 for a player 21 in the 6-8 card shoes. You can still fine 10x odds downtown and on some of the second tier properties near the strip. Taking your full odds is about the best bet on the table (buying the 4 and 10 slightly better but too esoteric for most)The article the Mayor posted is mostly true and this trend has been developing for several years. Although my wife and I are at the tables a fair amount, our comps (mostly tier status through the M-Life loyalty program - come more from what we spend on the room, meals, spa, etc.) The percentage of visitors to LAS who remember the old days declines every year...so this is normal to them. Just wait til dynamic pricing really starts to take hold...when that $12 hamburger at Bellagio on a summer day escalates to $20 on Final Four weekend, New Year's and high convention periods in April and October.

    SO....

I stopped by "the Shake Shack" which was just built into the front of NYNY. I saw these lines of people standing out in the sun to get in so I figured it must be pretty good.

I order a double burger, some fries, and a vanilla shake.

    $17.80!!!!!!

Never again. I honestly didn't care for the burger or the shake. IN and Out is better at half the price. Still, I'm amazed what people pay for food on the Strip at times.

Is there still the In n Out down the street from NYNY? Yes, Shake Shack is overrated and Fatburger, In n Out, Jack in a Crack and Steak and Shake come to mind as better product for less $$$.

I tried Shake Shack once last year when I lived in DC...way overrated as you said. The Fatburger in Maryland was a lot better by comparison as was Five Guys. Just last month I was in San Fran and couldn't stop eating In N Out. It was the first time I had it in two years and it's all I wanted out of all the nice restaurants there! ;)

I think the odds of getting indigestion at a place called Fatburger are about 3:2 :D East coaster here so Five Guys all day for me, but I keep meaning to try In and Out whenever I go to Vegas.

What are some fun places downtown though? I like Commonwealth and have had great steak at Hugo's Cellar and a crazy yet fuzzy night with a stripper who took me to a drag queen bowling alley right off Fremont........ I've heard some of the hotels there are modernizing so I keep thinking about trying one out so I can set aside more money for the dice.

Robin...The GN is about as nice as any of the Strip properties (except ultras). Depends what you want. Everybody has to go to Binion's to check out the WSHoF Poker exhibit. I like the four queens for gambling. One of the things I like to do is go downtown on a Monday morning...there is NOTHING going on and I like that....the casino employees working days average about 75 years old in those places. You can shoot dice for hours at a $ 3 craps table with just yourself and 4 old timers...the stories alone are worth whatever you lay. You can get a great full breakfast almost any old place for under $ 10 served by somebody's grandmother...tip big.

I have one better ... I took a friend who works in the watch department at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills to lunch at the fourth floor bar restaurant.

We both had a sandwich he had iced tea I had decaf coffee, $52 including tax Plus an eight dollar tip Service was fair.

So I think I like your burger and shake better... And I definitely like in and out better :)

See you at the new place Rich said moving next week I think.

    Cheers,

    Bill

I really miss the Mint and the Silver Slipper. I think I've lived in Las Vegas too long.

most top strip properties in collusion to screw Black Jack players with 6-5 payouts on player blackjack....replacing the 3-2 payout that was an integral part of this game for centuries.

Well I'm flying out there tomorrow to spend the next five days. I guess I'll lose more money this time :)
