I have the same watch, but on the stock black band with red stitching. The bottom mounted crown brings me hours of enjoyment. The detente and the click are very satisfying when I pull it out and tilt it to change the time or date. And you are right, it is a proper Italian job.

You're blessed mate! Hoping I get to do the same one day.

If not, hopefully I have some Grandsons that will inherit my watches and guitar collection.

Hope you're enjoying the weekend with the family Bill.

I wander about this....my son (and kids these days) show very little interest in watches. He is 15, so this might change, but it seems like wearing a watch is a bother in the age of smart phones and others objects of mass distraction.

Totally understand what you're saying, but I like to think as we get older we start to appreciate the finer things in life.

See how your son goes when he is 35, would be a different story I reckon.

I had no interest in nice watches until I was in my early/mid 20's.

And this is before smart phones. So as mentioned, it might take your son and kids these days longer to get their heads around wearing watches.

But in saying that also, I see a lot of teens these days (boys and girls) wearing the Casio G Shock watches. Here in Australia at least.

So they are wearing them, but maybe not interested in the high end stuff because they can't afford to wear them.

yes, I am totally into the Patek advert:
“You never actually own a Patek Philippe, you merely look after it for the next generation.”

I just need to be patient and wait out the phase where all he wants is Steam gift cards. Trying to teach a teenager that appearance and details matter is a tough challenge. All in due time. Plus I am still trying to hunt down the right Patek. Right now I am a little obsessed with the 5054. It is a complication I can maybe afford one day, and I love the asymmetrical design, roman numerals, and the officer's case with the hinged exhibition cover. It is cool and elegant, all at once.

:) I would have never given my son a Patek at 16.

    Cheers

at 16, mine is getting a used VW Golf. A manual transmission one, so he does not text or neck his GF while driving.

The Patek is an inheritance item, to be passed on in one's last dramatic minutes. Which reminds me of an Oscar Wilde deathbed quote concerning aesthetic taste:

“This wallpaper and I are fighting a duel to the death. Either it goes or I do.”

    This made me LOL!

That will CERTAINLY change. When he enters the work place and starts learning what it takes to earn a few dollars, he will certainly start asking Dad about watches, suits and shoes!
